Steep By Steep
Hello my fine feathered friends!
Did you hear we’ve reopened? We’re now sharing space with The Paper Seahorse in the SoHo neighborhood of Tampa. We’re snuggled into the cutest bungalow and have the most special tiny teahouse. It feels kind of like a speakeasy tucked away, a true surprise when you walk through our noren. Practically every detail was hand built to create a curated space to disconnect, relax, and have a sensory experience.
The Paper Seahorse is a beautiful promoter of mindfulness and analog activities, with an awesome curated selection of journaling and paper crafts, as well as stationery, books, and records. You can make a whole day out of visiting the bungalow!
Also… what a wild time to be opening a business, right? With all the uncertainty around us and the daily surprises, there are definitely moments where I’m like… what am I doing? Is this sustainable? I want to say thank you so much for spending your time and money with us. I know we’re having to be more discerning with our spending these days. I am so grateful for the success of the first month. It’s been really beautiful seeing all the old faces and meeting so many new tea enthusiasts. Every guest that visits is helping make a dream come true.
We are operating on a new model highlighting the traditional tea services of East Asia. All of our tea is served either gong fu style or in traditional Japanese teaware. We no longer offer single cups of tea. We are drinking tea over multiple steeps, watching the leaves unfurl and noticing how the flavors and aromas change, steep by steep.
Just like in our last teahouse, all of our teas come from small importers who work directly with farmers producing small batch, fine artisanal teas. These teas are meant to be sipped without milk or sugar so you can experience all the nuances of the leaves. We like to explore tea the way you might explore wine, talking about region, terroir, style, producer, season, and year of harvest. We even have vintage teas. I’ll also be ordering smaller amounts more frequently, so the menu will change often. We’re already about to switch up a couple teas that I’m very excited about from Vietnam, sourced by Anna Ye Tea. We’re adding their Wild Silver Needle White Tea and Red Oolong to the menu this week.
So you can come for a new tea experience, or simply relax with your tea and catch up with friends, journal, craft, read tarot, or whatever you dream of doing in the teahouse. It’s honestly one of my favorite things watching people do the things they love here.
Now that we have a space we can operate in full time, we have so many fun events we’re planning. Evening tea tastings, cozy date nights, meditation and slow practice gatherings, creative tea and art pairings, and community socials that are pay-what-you-can, come as you are. Our first weekend, we opened the teahouse with Shunyu Huang from Wild Flavors Teas offering two workshops, Dancong Oolongs and Tea as Medicine, and y’all really showed up for these, thank you!
Events are advertised on Instagram, Facebook, and noisycranetea.com. If I really get my stuff together, I’ll also send out invitations via email. If you see an event you’re interested in, sign up fast because they fill up quickly. And if there’s a class you can’t make but would like to see offered again, please let me know. I love hearing what you all are interested in learning. I’m always open to your ideas and dreams for what you’d like to experience in the teahouse.
We also have plenty of teaware and tea for sale, and you can stop in anytime to shop. If you’re planning to come for tea service on the weekend, I definitely recommend making a reservation. That said, we still welcome walk-ins whenever we have the space.
If you’ve made it this far, BLESS YOU. I’m hoping to make this a more regular thing and share more of who we are with y’all.
So much gratitude,
