Today’s the day!

We’re hosting a conversation on loneliness, addiction, and building connections that protect.

Addiction is not a moral failure.
Loneliness is not a weakness.
Stigma only deepens both.

When we lead with compassion and understanding, outcomes change.
We’re grateful to everyone joining us in this important dialogue.

Thank you to Carrie Zeisse of Tampa Bay Thrives for joining us for this powerful discussion!

Today, as we remember Rev. Jesse Jackson and his lifelong fight for civil rights and human dignity, we’re reminded that justice and public health are deeply connected.

Rev. Jackson’s work challenged systems that marginalized Black communities. He fought for equity, visibility, and the right to be treated with dignity, values that continue to shape movements today.

During Black History Month, Live Tampa Bay is honoring leaders reshaping how we respond to addiction and overdose through that same lens of justice.

This week, we’re spotlighting Joy Rucker and Imani Woods, co-founders of the Black Harm Reduction Network, a national collective amplifying Black leadership in harm reduction and drug policy.

Through expanding naloxone access, supporting syringe services, and advocating for culturally responsive care, their work reinforces a critical truth:

You cannot punish people into recovery.

Harm reduction means meeting people where they are.
It means centering Black voices in overdose prevention.
It means dignity, not judgment.
It means saving lives.

As we honor Rev. Jackson’s legacy, we also uplift the leaders continuing the work of equity, compassion, and community-based solutions.

By February, most of us are already tired of “new year, new you.”

At Live Tampa Bay, we’re offering a different message:

You don’t have to earn your worth. You deserve care, dignity, and connection exactly where you are 💙

Loneliness and overdose are deeply connected, and stigma only makes both worse. When we shift to person-first language and lead with compassion instead of pressure, we create safer pathways to recovery.

This month, our invitation is simple...

Care for yourself a little more kindly, and help someone else feel a little less alone.

Loneliness isn’t a personal failure; it’s a growing public health issue that directly impacts substance use, recovery, and mental health.

Join us for our February Webinar, a fireside chat–style conversation exploring the link between isolation and addiction, and how connection can act as a protective factor. You’ll hear from a behavioral health researcher, an employer champion, and a peer/recovery leader, including Carrie Zeisse, CEO of Tampa Bay Thrives, in conversation with Jennifer Webb, CEO of Live Tampa Bay.

Participants will walk away with:
✔️ Practical tools for workplaces and communities
✔️ A take-home playbook with actionable strategies
✔️ A deeper understanding of how reducing stigma starts with connection

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation, and prevention shouldn’t either.

February celebrates Black History Month, a time to recognize the history, contributions, and influence of Black individuals and communities across generations.

In recovery work, those contributions show up in the ways people care for one another, strengthen families, and support healing in community. Recovery is personal, but it is also shared, and it grows when every story and experience is valued.

At Live Tampa Bay, we remain committed to supporting recovery pathways that are welcoming, accessible, and grounded in dignity for all.

We are spreading the word about the National Prevention Summit, taking place February 17-18 in downtown St. Petersburg at the University of South Florida Student Center, hosted by the Drug Free America Foundation.

This two-day Summit brings together prevention professionals, educators, healthcare providers, policymakers, advocates, researchers, and community leaders to move beyond awareness and into action.

Registration includes parking, breakfast, and lunch on both days as well as CEUs covering a wide range of prevention, behavioral health, and recovery credentials.

🎉🎉🎉 In addition: During the Summit, there will be a press event to officially launch the Inclusive Recovery Communities of Tampa Bay (IRCTB) initiative. This announcement will celebrate the first tri-county Inclusive Recovery Community (IRC) model in the United States, launching right here in the Tampa Bay region. This milestone represents a major step forward in recovery-centered, community-driven approaches and aligns directly with the Summit’s focus on prevention, treatment, recovery, and systems-level change. 🎉🎉🎉
