This for REAL?

Yep,unfortunately, true story

NICU care is one of the most expensive parts of pediatric healthcare in the U.S. Estimates suggest the United States spends roughly $20 billion per year on neonatal intensive care and prematurity-related hospital care.

A single NICU admission averages about $70,000, but very premature or critically ill infants can generate bills in the millions.

I don't have a solution. It's hard to see parents worrying about the bill they are going to get.

How do we fix this?

This SAVES lives

That creamy white coating is called Vernix Caseosa.

It’s actually one of nature’s best protections for your baby.

Vernix helps moisturize delicate newborn skin, protects against infections, and even supports healthy bacteria on the skin.

It also helps babies regulate their temperature and may reduce skin irritation after birth.

So instead of rushing to wipe it off, many experts recommend delaying at least to the first bath and gently rubbing it in.

How long do you think it should stay on for?

Warms the heart

No matter what may be going on in your life, whether you're in the hospital or stressed at work, that smile from a child or children is such a ray of sunshine.

Call me mushy, but we all need this message some days.

RESULTS ARE IN!

The FDA, the food drug and administration, turned in the results for testing of more than 312 formulas, made up of powders and liquids, from cow’s milk, soy, and amino acids.

They found very very low levels of cadmium, lead, mercury, and arsenic, the levels were extremely low.
One ppb (part per billion) is equal to q drop within an Olympic pool.
Also that some US formulas were found to have levels that were even below European standards.

I think it's great news as it gives so many parents the reassurance and confidence that the US makes some real safe and top quality formula!

Don't get confused...

Caput succedaneum is soft, crosses suture lines, and usually resolves on its own in a few days.

Subgaleal hemorrhage is different, it spreads across the scalp, can expand quickly, and can lead to significant blood loss, this is an emergency.

⚠️ If you see a rapidly enlarging, boggy scalp swelling with pale body and/or tachycardia, think subgaleal.

Have you ever seen a subgaleal hemorrhage in real life?
