Walwin D. Metzger, M.D. provides primary care services at our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd office location as a member of the Department of Internal Medicine at LoCicero Health. Dr. Metzger is board certified in Internal Medicine and has an extensive range of experience in clinical private practice and at several hospitals in the Tampa Bay area.
Dr. Metzger graduated with his Bachelor and Doctoral degrees from the State University of New York. He received several honors throughout his medical school studies. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ohio, where he served as Chief of Residency and later as Associate Director of the Educational Division of Internal Medicine.
Since coming to Tampa, Dr. Metzger has been an active member of the Internal Medicine Department at Tampa General Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, University Community Hospital (now Advent Health-Tampa), and UCH- Carrollwood Community Hospital (now Advent Health-Carrollwood). He has also served as the chairman of the pharmacy committee, utilization review committee, and various other committees at both University Community Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital. He has been a member of the Diabetes Medical Advisory Committee at St. Joseph's Hospital since 1991 and has served as the Director of the Weight Management Program within this facility.
Dr. Metzger was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa. He represented his country on the National Team for both soccer and track and field. He then came to the United States to pursue his degree on a track and field scholarship. He moved to Tampa in 1982 and is now married with 4 children.
