If yelling has become the only way to get your child to listen… you’re not alone. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. 💥

Yelling usually means you’re working too hard to get your child to do something their brain isn’t ready to do yet (usually because of regulation, attention, or unclear structure).

Here’s what helps instead:
✔️ Get their full attention before giving a direction
✔️ Say it once only when you’re ready and follow through
✔️ Keep it short (especially for kids with ADHD or anxiety)
✔️ Offer choices that support follow-through, not power struggles

You don’t have to be calm 100% of the time but the more consistent and clear your approach, the less often you’ll need to raise your voice. Structure works better than stress.

Parenting a child with ADHD is already hard, but certain patterns (often picked up from advice that isn’t meant for neurodivergent kids) can make it way harder than it needs to be. 🧨

Things like:
• Expecting immediate follow-through
• Assuming they’re not trying hard enough
• Dismissing medication because of stigma
• Using shame as motivation
• Treating them the same as a neurotypical sibling

None of these things make you a bad parent. But know that they do lead to more frustration, more pushback, and more disconnect.

👋🏼 ADHD isn’t a discipline issue. It’s a brain difference, and when you understand what your child actually needs, things will start to feel more manageable.

Remember: it’s not about doing everything right. It’s about doing what works for your child.

If your child holds it together all day at school and falls apart the second they get home… you’re not alone.

There’s a word for this! It’s called restraint collapse. It’s common in kids who work hard to keep it together in structured or overstimulating environments, but at home (where they feel safest), all that bottled-up emotion comes pouring out.

Home is where they finally can let go. Understanding this helps parents shift the response from frustration to compassion. This gives you a chance to support instead of react. ❤️

When it comes to ADHD, the most effective therapy doesn’t always start with the child. It often starts with the parent.

Research shows that parent training is one of the most powerful tools for improving attention, behavior, and emotional regulation.

Why? because most kids are not mature enough to change their behavior on their own.

In our latest post, we break down what types of therapy actually work for ADHD. 🎯🎯🎯🎯

Parents! If your child has ADHD, ⚡️pause right now⚡️ to think about how many times today you told them (reminded them) to do something. You likely counted on both hands and then some.

This happens, but what we don’t realize is how easily those reminders turn into criticism. When a child hears messages like “why can’t you listen?” enough times, they start to believe it. 💔

Children with ADHD are often corrected more, misunderstood more, and praised less, leading to deep, lasting hits to their self-esteem. What sounds like a quick correction can easily become an internalized belief of “I’m bad” or “something’s wrong with me.”

👉 This doesn’t mean we can’t set boundaries or hold expectations. But it does mean we need to be thoughtful about how we speak to and about kids who struggle with attention and impulse control.

Wondering if it’s time for an evaluation?

A psychological evaluation can help clarify what’s going on when:
🔍 Your child is struggling in school despite support
🔍 Emotions or behaviors seem extreme or unpredictable
🔍 Something just feels “off” even if you can’t explain it
🔍 You’re getting mixed messages from teachers or doctors
🔍 Your child is trying hard but things just aren’t clicking

An evaluation isn’t a label, it’s a roadmap that gives you direction and a clearer path forward.
