Scar management after a carpal tunnel release is pertinent to promoting great outcomes. A dense scar can lead to hypersensitivity, difficulty weight-bearing, and adhesions that may make it hard to make a fist or result in more pain than normal. Instrument-assisted soft tissue massage can help flatten the scar tissue to help promote a more healthy-looking scar. Using silicone, tape, or elastomer can also help with laying scar tissue at night as silicone and mechanical pressure in combination have proven helpful in managing scar thickness. Our carpal tunnel tool kit includes all these tools, education, and guided rehab from a certified hand therapist. Joint deformities, hand pain, stiff fingers, trauma, and other age-related changes can cause us difficulty with daily activities. Splinting can improve function by supporting joints and preventing nerve impingement. A comprehensive evaluation by a certified hand therapist can help determine which splint may help improve your function and reduce your hand/wrist pain. Popular custom fabricated and fitted prefabricated splints available in the home-based setting include trigger finger splints, thumb spicas for dequervains tenosynovitis, short opponens for CMC OA, tennis elbow sleeves, and various finger braces to support fractures and sprains.

Limb shrinkage and desensitization techniques are utilized with prosthetic care to promote reintegration back into normal daily activities with improved comfort. Stretching, manual therapy, and physical therapy are performed to strengthen the adjacent muscles to promote readjustment to the prosthetic.

Falls are a significant concern for many individuals, particularly the elderly and those with conditions affecting their balance, strength, or mobility. Conditions like Parkinson's disease, stroke, arthritis, and general age-related decline in muscle strength and reflexes can increase the risk of falls, making fall prevention an essential aspect of maintaining safety and independence. For individuals facing these challenges, home health fall prevention aid from an occupational therapist can be a critical service that provides the support and guidance they need to navigate their daily lives with confidence.

Environmental hazards play a large role in falls, having a skilled clinician evaluate your home for fall risks can help improve your safety and soothe family concerns. A comprehensive evaluation of visual, cognitive, and physical factors is completed and physical rehab is offered for individuals with balance deficits who are determined at risk for falling.
