If it’s one thing I think antibiotics are over prescribed for it’s ear infections. The last time I was told my daughter had an ear infection I took her home from the dr & did the same routine I do every time. Warm oil compresses consistently. Took her back three days later & said ear infection was gone.
This is not to say that antibiotics don’t serve a purpose. But a single course can alter the gut microbiome for several years & ear infections can typically be addressed with something as simple as an herbal ear oil.
There’s only a few instances where I’ll use fresh herbs when making an infused oil & this is one of them.
Mullein Garlic ear oil is one of those things that’s good to have on hand. It’s very effective at knocking an ear infection out & providing relief.
This oil has analgesic & antiseptic properties. Helping to relieve any pain or inflammation while slowing down or stopping the growth of an infection. It can even help with the build up of ear wax.
I always recommend slightly warming the oil to the temperature a mothers milk would be. That way it can travel down the ear canal smoothly & effectively.
Always treating both ears even if it’s only one that may be causing discomfort. You can do this 2-3 times the first day.
This is not an oil I would recommend for swimmers ear or any infection caused by water entering the ear canal. It can actually make things worse.
To make this oil I started by rinsing my flowers to remove any debris & let them sit out overnight to wilt. Doing this allows the water content to reduce.
I got a 4oz jar, added my Mullein flowers & two thinly sliced garlic cloves. Topping it off with good quality olive oil that I got from & about a 1/2tsp of to help it from going rancid.
Labeled my jar & I’ll let this sit in a sunny window for about two weeks before straining & bottling to have on hand 🤞🏼💛
