You never know when your story, your pain, your frustrations can be the key to the growth and healing for someone else. Don’t withhold your story. Be bold, and be strong, and watch your story be an inspiration for others. I would never have asked for much of the pain and heartache in my life. But now? I wouldn’t change any of it. I can love and care for others in ways that others cannot as a result.

Did you know that you don’t have to have all the answers as a leader? Take that burden off your shoulders! No single leader has the answers to every problem. Go to your team. Solicit their ideas and feedback. Turn them loose on problem-solving WITH you, and watch them light up at the opportunity to help.

So many people are afraid to show others who they really are. They are afraid to talk about their mistakes, their inadequacies, and their failures.

But in a social media world where we edit and filter our lives to only show the world our best, it’s actually our struggles, our trauma, our fear, the very things we hide that bring us together.

The human condition is one of pain.

The human condition is one of suffering.

To pretend that we are not experiencing those things isn’t just masking our identity, it’s quite literally inhuman.

Let down your guard. Take off your mask. Create the space in your relationships at home, at work, and in your community to be authentic and vulnerable.

You’ll experience beauty and healing and restoration in ways you never could have imagined.

In a world where we spend more time editing our pictures than taking them, where we agonize over the right angles to take selfies…join in our mission of being authentic, vulnerable, and real with others. Experience the transformation of letting go of your need to impress others. True connection often occurs when we understand the struggles of others and empathize because have similar struggles as well. And how we care for others amidst those struggles is how we build trust. Impact your relationships with others by deciding to become vulnerable with them today.

“Faith in humanity restored” story of the week:

I was flying through Milwaukee for a business trip a couple weeks ago. I was waiting in the concourse to board and plugged in my expensive headphones to charge in the outlet behind my head.

A short time later I went to retrieve them and they were gone.

Totally gone.

Annoyed and frustrated, I searched everywhere just in case I was imagining that they actually had been charging.

They were gone. Stolen.

The sheriff’s deputy got called over and he offered to take my info and review the tapes. He said that these things rarely end well. I appreciated his help but held on to very little hope.

Fast forward a week and he calls on his personal cell number to tell me he arrested the lady who swiped them as she came back to fly home to NY. She gave them up immediately and he fined her $300.

That would be incredible alone, but THEN the deputy goes, “And guess who is visiting Tampa next week?! Me! I’ll hand deliver them to you when I arrive if you want to meet me at the airport.”

What. On. Earth.

Seriously next level stuff and an incredible testimony to this gentleman and his department.

Blown away and humbled. Time to step up my game...

I was shocked.

I spoke at a private university last year to an auditorium of eager young minds in a business and technology education track.

"Perfect", I thought. "These kids will really connect with my background and there may be aspiring salespeople in the room who would be fun to mentor."

To be sure, we all had a blast, and the luncheon afterward brought many good questions and connections. But what shocked me was there were 170 students seeking every conceivable variation of "business" and "technology" degree, but not one student considering a career in sales.

Not only that, but it was apparent that "sales" wasn't even a career path that they seemed aware of or interested in; that is, until I opened their eyes to the options, the various career paths that would be available, and the income potential.

Why the disconnect? Why is sales ignored or invisible? I don't know anyone who actually sought out the sales profession.

Challenge: How can we educate and empower young people to intentionally seek an honest, educated, creative career in sales? How can we stop the drip of accidental greatness and cultivate a deluge of intentional, powerful leaders in this arena?
