At My Behavior Analyst Inc, we understand the importance of implementing comprehensive safety measures to protect autistic individuals at home — especially in light of recent tragic incidents in Florida.

Here are 5 essential safety procedures every family should consider:

1. Secure Doors and Windows
Install childproof locks, use door and window alarms, and place locks or latches out of children’s reach to reduce the risk of wandering.

2.Implement Water Safety Measures
Enroll children in swimming lessons designed for autistic individuals, secure pools and water bodies with fences, and install pool alarms.

3.Utilize Identification and Tracking Tools
Provide medical ID bracelets or necklaces with emergency contact info. Consider using GPS tracking devices if your child is prone to eloping.

4. Teach Safety Skills
Teach children how to recognize danger and use visual supports or social stories to reinforce concepts.

5. Prepare for Emergencies
Create a personalized emergency plan. Practice safety drills and notify local first responders about your child’s needs in advance.

🚨 Parents, this is critical! 🚨

At My Behavior Analyst Inc., we’re seeing a troubling trend—delayed collaboration meetings preventing ABA therapy from being available in classrooms when it’s needed most. These meetings are supposed to unite educators, clinicians, and parents before the school year begins to ensure our kids receive the supports they deserve. Yet, too many students are starting the year without these vital services in place.

I’m proud to be part of Project ABA Rights and our online community, where we advocate for timely collaboration and evidence-based practices in every classroom. Let’s come together to make sure all voices are heard and respected—our children deserve no less.
