Throughout my counseling career I have worked with veterans, individuals in the criminal justice system, complex families and many other demographics. There is absolutely nothing that you could say to me that would shock me or cause me to be judgmental. I believe that a trusting therapeutic relationship is an essential component of this process. I want you to know that I am capable of holding anything that you may need to share without intimidation or casting shame. As a therapist it is my position to guide you in establishing realistic goals,challenge unhelpful thinking patterns that are blocking growth and assist you in moving through difficult experiences that have been impeding self-empowerment. I am not here to give you advice but rather work as soundboard to help you discover your own solutions through reflection. I have experience working with adults, couples, families and adolescence as young as 14. I specialize in trauma and have experience in couples counseling, family therapy, substance use, and adolescent substance use.

You don't need me to tell you that sleep is important. Here are some tips to help you sleep better so you can increase your energy and lose the Monday blues.

* You probably already know that you should put your electronics away and that it's not good to sleep with the TV on. What you might not know is that your phone, laptop and television are streaming out blue light, which suppresses melatonin. Research shows that this can impact your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep as it interferes with your circadian rhythm.

* Have a routine that includes down time before going to bed. Take time to wash off the day, relax your body and clear out your thoughts. You don't want to wake up in the middle of the night from unprocessed feelings. Or struggle to fall asleep because you didn't shake off the day.

* It can also be helpful to be on a consistent sleep time and waking up time. Your body is governed by your circadian rhythm or internal clock. A consistent schedule might even help to ditch that alarm clock and allowing you to have a calmer start to your morning.

* Pay attention to your own sleep needs and rhythms. We are all unique and have different needs when it come to health sleep. It is okay if you do not need 8 hours of sleep. Keep track of your sleep so that you can determine how much sleep you naturally need to feel rested.
