July is UV awareness month As many of us know, the overexposure to UV rays from the sun during the summer months can cause severe skin and eye injuries, including sunburn, skin cancer, cataracts, macular degeneration, and growths on our eyes - including cancer. In the continental U.S., the hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. are the most hazardous for UV exposure and are at their greatest intensity during the late spring and early summer. To reduce your risks, it's important to wear broad spectrum sunscreen to protect against UVA, & UVB rays. UVA rays pe*****te deep into the layers of the skin and lead to premature signs of aging, which include fine lines and wrinkles. UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburn, thickening of the skin, and several types of skin cancers - including melanoma. Make sure to look for 100% UV protection sunblock that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Protect your eyes with sunglasses and a hat when outside. Never look directly at the sun. Stay safe this summer and enjoy your time outside. Just remember to stay hydrated, properly cover yourself in sunscreen and limit your time in the sun.
