Not every injury shows up right away.

After a slip and fall, workplace injury, or accident, adrenaline can hide the pain and some of the most serious injuries may not appear until days or even weeks later.

What feels like minor soreness can turn into herniated discs, nerve damage, spinal injuries, or chronic back and neck pain if left untreated.

In this episode of Back in Focus: Straight Talk for a Healthy Spine, Dr. Robert Nucci, a Tampa orthopedic spine surgeon, explains the hidden injuries patients often miss after an accident and why early diagnosis and treatment are critical.

For federal workers dealing with Office of Workers' Compensation Programs and U.S. Department of Labor injury claims, proper documentation and early spine evaluation can make a major difference in both recovery and benefits.

Serving patients across Tampa and throughout Florida for work injuries, slip and fall injuries, and orthopedic spine care.

A denied OWCP claim can feel like the end of the road, but in many cases, it is only the beginning of the process.

What most federal workers are not told is that OWCP denials are often tied to technical issues, not because the injury is not real. Missing documentation, vague medical reports, and failure to establish a clear connection between your injury and your job duties are some of the biggest reasons claims get denied.

The truth is, a strong case starts with strong medical evidence. Understanding why claims get denied and how to respond can make a major difference in whether your treatment and benefits move forward.

In this episode of Back in Focus: Straight Talk for a Healthy Spine, Dr. Nucci explains the hidden reasons behind OWCP denials and what injured federal workers need to know to protect their claim.

Serving federal injured workers in Tampa and throughout Florida.

💡 Did You Know?
Federal Workers’ Compensation (OWCP) Approval Facts

If you’re a federal employee who gets hurt on the job, you may already know you’re covered under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA) and file a claim through the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP).

But here’s something many don’t realize:
Claim approval isn’t automatic and getting a claim accepted can be challenging.

👉 According to data collected over recent years, only a small percentage of federal workers’ compensation claims filed are approved, with some national estimates showing as low as around 3% of submitted claims being accepted without issues.

That doesn’t mean injured workers aren’t entitled to benefits , it often reflects how tricky the OWCP process can be:
✔ Complex forms (CA-1 vs CA-2)
✔ Tight timelines
✔ Detailed medical documentation required
✔ Causation must be clearly linked to job duties
✔ Proper physician reporting is critical

This is a national trend in the OWCP system — and it underscores how important it is to understand the process and choose a provider who knows how to document claims effectively.

Why it matters:
A denied claim doesn’t mean you don’t have a real injury — it often means the paperwork or medical narrative wasn’t strong enough. Many cases can be appealed or corrected with better documentation.

At Nucci Medical, we help federal workers with:
✔️Medical evaluation for neck, back, and nerve injuries
✔️Strong OWCP documentation & causation reports
✔️Claim peace of mind and support through the process

🇺🇸 Federal Workers — Did You Know?

💡 You have the right to choose your own treating physician after a work-related injury — you are NOT required to see the clinic your agency suggests.

💡 FECA has protected federal workers for over 100 years.

💡 Filing the wrong form (CA-1 vs CA-2) is one of the most common reasons claims get delayed.

💡 OWCP covers 2+ million federal employees, including USPS, TSA, VA, DoD civilians, BOP, DHS, and SSA.

💡 Most claim denials happen because of missing medical documentation, not because the injury isn’t real.

💡 FECA covers imaging, therapy, specialist care, surgery, and wage loss when medically justified.

💡 Federal workers can receive care for aggravated pre-existing conditions — not just new injuries.

💡 Neck and back injuries are among the most common work-related conditions federal employees face.

If you’re a federal worker dealing with neck, back, or nerve pain from work duties, understanding your rights matters.
You work hard , let's make sure you’re protected.
