Protein shakes, specifically Whey isolate, are truly a lifesaver at times. They are convenient, easy to make, and provide your body with the nutrients you need to keep your metabolism turbocharged, and great for building and repairing muscle tissue. What if you don't have time to eat a solid meal, so you can drink it in the form of a shake. But what if that meal needs to have starchy carbs in it as well? What do you do? You mix in your whey powder in WATER ONLY! And, you measure out accordingly, and add rolled oats(oatmeal) to the blender as well. The oatmeal is a great, slow-releasing energy source, and makes the shake much more sustaining! Give it a try!

Tricep pushdowns are a very popular and super effective exercise for the back of the arms. Most people do a pretty good job of keeping their elbows in, but I'd like to tell you a couple things that will intensify the movement. First thing is, when you tuck your elbows in, pull them straight back underneath the shoulder. It'll feel like you just increased the weight by 30lbs! Second thing is when bringing the bar(or rope) up, only bring your elbows up to 90°. By doing that, you're keeping tension on the muscle the entire time. Give it a try!

You know what creates intensity? It's called, "The mind, muscle connection." Done correctly, you can make 10lbs feel like 100lbs. How do you do it? Glad you asked! It's truly focusing and concentrating just on the muscles your training at that moment. Feeling the stretch, and feeling the squeeze while blocking everything else out. THAT is what creates intensity, not just hoisting heavy weight while you thinking about what's for dinner at the same time. It takes some practice, but you'll get it. Lord knows if I can, ANYONE can! Give it a try!

So, if you have plateaued in your weight training progress(muscle growth) and if you're not already doing pyramid sets, then you should give it a try! It is super effective for putting on muscle. You simply take an exercise(like barbell curls for example)and on the first set you do a weight that you can handle, WITH GOOD FORM, for 10 reps. Make sure the weight is heavy enough that you can't get more than 10. Second set increase the poundage to where you can only get 8 reps, WITHOUT sacrificing your form. Third set, increase the weight even more to where you can only get 6 reps, without getting sloppy. Try this on every exercise you do on any particular day. It's a great way to challenge yourself and "push outside the box" Remember, your body can't change in a comfort zone!
