Tired of bladder leaks? Your pelvic floor might be the problem 😩
First, it's crucial to identify which type of urinary incontinence you're experiencing, as each type requires a different approach.
The Two Common Types 🚽:
👉 Stress Incontinence: Leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, laughing, jumping, or exercising. This can occur if your pelvic floor is weak, uncoordinated, tense, or a combination of these.
👉 Urge Incontinence: Leaking urine due to a sudden, intense urge to urinate. Often associated with a tense pelvic floor, which may also be weak and uncoordinated.
Understanding your specific condition is key to effective treatment. Stop settling for quick fixes like panty liners and seek a permanent solution.
Ready to regain control? Call us for a free 15-minute consultation to explore how we can help you return to a leak-free life! ✨

Did you know it's normal to urinate 6-8 times a day, or once every 2-4 hours? 🚽 If you find yourself feeling an urgent need to pee more frequently, here are some tips to help manage that urgency:
Take a Seat: If you can, sit down. The pressure from the seat can help hold back the urge. 🪑
Breathe Deeply: Slow, deep breaths can help calm your bladder. Inhale... Exhale...🌬️
Pelvic Floor Quick Contractions: Try contracting your pelvic floor for one second, then release, and repeat about 10 times. This helps because your bladder and pelvic floor work antagonistically—when one contracts, the other relaxes. 🔄
Mind Distractions: Engage your mind in something other than your bladder to reduce the sense of urgency. 🧠
Empower Yourself: Use affirmations like "Mind over bladder" or "I can hold my urine a bit longer" to strengthen your mental control. 💪
🚶♂️ When YOU (not your bladder) decide to go to the toilet, remember to walk to the bathroom calmly—no need to rush or run.
These simple steps can significantly improve your comfort and control. Have you tried any of these techniques? Share your experiences below! ✨

Sujata had the most amazing time presenting about "Integrating Energetics in Pelvic Health" at the OTs in Pelvic Health conference hosted by @functionalpelvis at the @atstilluniversity . 🩷
She taught a room full of Pelvic Foor Therapists how to help their clients to heal beyond the physical through yoga-based energetic methods. 🧘
These therapists practiced leading their clients into a deep meditative state to decrease pain & pelvic muscle tension, assist with trauma resolution, and improve their connection with their body. 🙏
This lecture was just the a very small preview into all the innovative pelvic health techniques we will be exploring in our curriculum at The Integrative Somatic Healing Institute!
Meeting other passionate Pelvic OTs and the true Pelvic OT pioneer- Lindsey Vestal - was just the cherry on the cake! 🍰
Here's to more collaboration and exploring new frontiers in pelvic health! ✨

If you’re recovering from a C-section or planning to have one, here’s how to prioritize your healing journey. 🩷
🛌 Rest is crucial in the early weeks. Your body has undergone major surgery, so give yourself permission to truly rest. Sleep and recovery should be your top priorities.
🚶♀️ Gentle movement, like walking, is beneficial, but avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities. If you notice increased bleeding, it’s a sign to slow down and listen to your body.
🛏️ Protect your incision by using a pillow to splint when you cough, sneeze, or get out of bed. This simple trick can help minimize discomfort and prevent added strain.
🥤 Stay hydrated and nourish your body with fiber-rich foods to avoid constipation, a common issue after birth. Proper nutrition is key to a smooth recovery.
🚨 Keep an eye on your incision for signs of infection like redness or swelling. If anything seems off, don’t hesitate to contact your healthcare provider.
If you have any questions throughout your healing process, one of our pelvic floor therapists can help guide you on this journey. 🔗 Click the link in our bio to schedule your free 15-min consultation call!

A big warm hello from Sujata and the newest member of the Pelvic Soul team! 👶
After a wonderful home birth experience, Sujata and her little one took the traditional 28 days of rest after birth. 🩷 This special time is dedicated to rest, recovery, and bonding, minimizing contact with the outside world to focus entirely on each other and get used to each other's routines.
We're thrilled to announce that while Sujata will be on maternity leave until late September, she will still offer limited availability for Ayurvedic coaching, sex counseling, and pelvic therapy through online sessions starting August 5th.👩💻
Thank you for your support and understanding during this beautiful period of growth and change for Sujata and her family. 🩷

When treating pelvic issues, we ***always*** start with breath & the diaphragm.
👉 we use osteopathic manipulation therapy to free up your diaphragm to allow it to move easier
👉 we assess your breathing patterns & train you in #breathwork strategies to improve some of the issues leading to your pelvic concerns.
Here's a great explanation by @mvmt.101 on the difference between expanding & elevating your ribcage.
Reposted from @mvmt.101 EXPANSION vs ELEVATION
When you BREATHE IN do you use ribcage expansion
….or ribcage elevation?
This is the difference between using your diaphragm to breathe (your primary muscle of breathing) vs using your neck and shoulders ( accessory muscles of breathing).
EXPANSION
creates expansion 360 degrees around your ribcage
creates back body opening
is key to having a well functioning core
it activates your core creating IAP and IPP
it creates stability from the inside out
ELEVATION
creates chronic neck tension
closes in your shoulders
disrupts core, breathing & posture
disconnects your pelvis and ribcage
it leaves you forced to stabilize from the outside in = gripping
gets you stuck in your sympathetic nervous system - fight flight freeze ..not a fun place to get stuck
This is such an important concept.
Experiencing Expansion vs elevation.
We tale 20-25,000 BREATHS in a day…
put a little thought into how you are getting AIR IN.

Have you ever wondered if you're doing your pelvic floor contractions correctly? Here’s what to look for 👇:
🌸 Feel the Tightening - You should notice a gentle tightening sensation between the vagina and anus.
🌸 Watch the Perineum - The area between the vagina/scrotum and anus should draw in. This can be visualized with a mirror or felt by touch.
🌸 Sense the Release - There should be a noticeable sensation of dropping or relaxation when you release the contraction.
🌸 Stopping the Flow - Imagine stopping the flow of urine mid-stream; that’s the muscle action you’re aiming for.
🌸 Breathing is Key - Ensure you aren’t holding your breath or over-bracing your belly. Proper breathing helps coordinate the pelvic floor muscles effectively.
If you're struggling to get these right, or if you want to ensure you're benefiting fully from your efforts, our clinic is here to help guide you through each step! 🩷

Breastfeeding and the weight of full breasts can often lead to a rounded shoulder posture, putting a significant strain on your mid and upper back muscles.
Try these 3 mobility exercises to REDUCE DISCOMFORT in your mid and upper back associated with breastfeeding. They’re perfect for use right after breastfeeding, or anytime you feel tension in your shoulders, neck, or mid-back. 🧘♀️
➡️ Open Book - Lie on your side with your top leg crossed over your bottom leg to keep your hips stacked. Arms out in front of you, inhale as you rotate to open, and exhale as you close. Aim to feel a nice rotational stretch throughout your spine.
➡️ Wall Angels - Keep your back against the wall and feet slightly away from the wall. Inhale as you reach up, and exhale as you pull the elbows down and slightly squeeze the shoulder blades together.
➡️ Down Dog against Wall - Place your hands on the wall, step back away from the wall, and send your hips way back. Keep a bend in your knees and melt your chest towards the floor as you breathe and hold the stretch.
The goal is to stay within a comfortable range of motion and feel a strong, but comfortable stretch.

The key to emotional regulation is allowing emotions to move through you, and this is by welcoming them as sensations in the body. 🌊
Interpreting sensations instead of feeling them will keep the sensation stuck on repeat 🔄 and the emotion unable to fully process through the body.
Then, stuck energies of flight, fight, and freeze stay in your nervous system causing dysregulation throughout the body.
Healing happens in your body, not in your mind. 🧘♀️🧘♂️
Examples of sensations:
🌟 A warmness in your chest
🌟 A pit in your stomach
🌟 A tingling in your hands
Examples of interpreting sensations:
❌ I’m feeling this because…
❌ Why won’t this feeling go away?
❌ Yesterday my friend said something that made me feel this way
Your body never loses its ability to heal itself. 💫

The bird dog exercise is a fantastic core stability workout that, when performed correctly, can help reduce leaking and improve Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA)! 🏋️♀️
A common mistake is allowing too much spinal extension, which impacts intra-abdominal pressure management and reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
👩⚕️ Dr. Anne Marie demonstrates how to perform this movement correctly. She starts with a simpler modification to ease you in, and ends with a more challenging variation to push your limits! 💪
