Is ADHD actually spreading, or are we just getting better at recognizing it? Recent coverage suggests the rise in diagnoses may reflect growing awareness, updated diagnostic criteria, and more open conversations, not necessarily a sudden surge in cases.
Understanding ADHD means understanding people. Awareness leads to support, evaluation, and tools that help individuals thrive.
The rising number of Attention‑Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) diagnoses may reflect better recognition, wider diagnostic practices, and changing societal demands, not necessarily a true explosion in cases., Health, Times Now

Recent research suggests ADHD may come with unexpected strengths, including hyper-curiosity and innovative thinking. We believe in highlighting your strengths while providing the support you need to stay balanced and focused.
ADHD isn’t just about challenges, it’s about understanding how your brain works best.
ADHD is officially a disorder of deficits in attention, behavior and focus. But patients point out upsides, like curiosity. Research is now catching up.

ADHD doesn’t always look like what you’d expect. While it’s often associated with childhood, ADHD in adults can appear in more subtle ways like difficulty staying organized, losing focus during conversations, struggling to start or complete projects, or feeling mentally cluttered and overwhelmed.
Nearly 6% of adults in the U.S. live with ADHD, yet many go undiagnosed for years. These daily challenges can lead to frustration or self-doubt, but they’re often symptoms of something deeper.
The good news is that ADHD can be effectively managed with the right evaluation and support. Understanding how your brain works is the first step toward better focus, balance, and confidence.

Everybody can have difficulty sitting still, paying attention or controlling impulsive behavior once in a while. For some people, however, the problems are so pervasive and persistent that they interfere with every aspect of their life: home, academic, social, and work.
Individuals with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can be very successful in life. However, without proper identification and treatment, research has shown that there is a higher likelihood of school failure, family stress and disruption, anxiety, depression, problems with relationships, substance abuse, delinquency, accidental injuries and job failure. Early identification and proper treatment of ADHD is essential for optimal health and wellbeing.
Our mission at Focus of Tampa Bay is to improve the lives of those affected by ADHD by providing comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations and treatment led by a team of compassionate, dedicated and experienced medical professionals.
April L. Green, APRN is the owner and founder of Focus of Tampa Bay, LLC and is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She has been caring for children, adolescents and young adults since 2011 in a prominent pediatric neurology practice in South Tampa. During that time, she developed a special interest in ADHD management, specifically in working closely with families in establishing proper diagnoses, treatment planning, and providing guidance and counseling related to social, emotional, behavioral and educational impacts of the condition.
Ms. Green has two young sons, one of which has been diagnosed with and treated for ADHD since the age of 6. She knows personally the struggles that ADHD can pose in a child's life, as well as that of the family. But she has also witnessed first hand how proper intervention can lead to amazing outcomes.
Deborah M. Gage, MD, MBA earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Neuroscience at University of Florida. She completed her medical degree at University of Pittsburgh and her pediatric residency at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. After completing her training, she practiced as a primary care pediatrician for a few years before working at The Children’s Institute in Pittsburgh, a rehabilitation hospital for children, where she cared for children suffering from head injury, spinal cord injury, and recent transplants. She also was the Physician Director of the Functional Feeding team who cared for young children with feeding disorders and finally, acted as the Interim Medical Director of the institute before moving to Maryland with her family.
In Maryland she resumed primary care pediatrics with a preference for caring for children with special needs. She also was the Physician Champion of her practice which participated in the State of Maryland’s Medical Home Pilot Project. She worked to improve the comprehensive care within the medical home for children and their families, including specifically those diagnosed with ADHD. This was demonstrated by achieving NCQA level 3 certification.
Dr. Gage is happy to be returning home to the Tampa Bay area. After several years of volunteering at the Judeo Christian Health Clinic in Tampa caring for children without insurance, she is excited to be joining April Green, APRN at Focus of Tampa Bay.
Dr. Gage is passionate about caring for patients and families who live with ADHD. After successfully treating ADHD as a primary care physician for many years and living with family members diagnosed with ADHD, she understands the importance of maximizing potential for patients by using a comprehensive care approach.
