April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and on April 10, Florida’s Poison Control Centers proudly join communities across the country in Wear Blue Day. Wearing blue is a simple but powerful way to show support for safe, stable, and nurturing environments for every child.

The pinwheel has become a national symbol of hope and healthy childhoods, reminding us that prevention begins with strong families, early support, and connected communities. By participating in Wear Blue Day, we help raise awareness and stand with children and families across Florida.

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has retracted the previous public health alert for Great Value Fully Cooked Dino Shaped Chicken Breast Nuggets.

After additional testing by the New York State Department of Health and the manufacturer, officials confirmed the original elevated lead result was a laboratory false positive. Follow-up testing of the original lot and additional lots found no elevated lead levels, and the product is not considered a public health concern.

Transparency and follow-up testing are critical parts of protecting public health, and this update reflects how the safety system works to verify potential risks.

You may have seen headlines about recent rattlesnake bites in California. 🐍 This may be due to the unseasonably warm weather in late winter that has snakes more active than usual.

☀️Emergence from hibernation can begin as early as March, depending on the species, location and weather. As temperatures stabilize in late spring, snakes leave for their summer hunting grounds. As you spend more time outdoors this spring, beware of snakes in woodpiles, sheds, rock crevices and other hiding spots.

🚨If you or a loved one has been bitten by a snake, seek emergency care right away. Poison Help is also available 24/7 at 1-800-222-1222 📲

🚨 LEAD (Pb) WARNING: FOOD RECALL 🚨

The USDA has issued a public health alert for certain Great Value chicken nuggets sold at Walmart after testing found elevated levels of lead (Pb) in the product. Lead is a toxic metal that can be harmful, especially for young children, pregnant people, and those who are breastfeeding.

🚨 Recalled Product Details: Check Your Freezers

Look for the following item in your freezer, sold exclusively at Walmart:

• 29 oz plastic bags containing approximately 36 nuggets
• GREAT VALUE FULLY COOKED DINO SHAPED CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS
• BEST IF USED BY: FEB 10 2027
• Lot code: 0416DPO1215
• Establishment number: P44164 (printed on the back of the bag)

If your product matches these details, do not eat it. Discard it immediately.

🚨 Why This Matters

Lead exposure can contribute to:
• Developmental delays
• Learning and behavior problems
• Lower IQ
• Speech and hearing issues
• Poor growth
• Long‑term nervous system effects

🚨 What To Do
• Stop using the recalled product
• Follow recall instructions on the USDA website
• Do NOT attempt to wash or cook the product to make it safe

📞If you have questions about lead or concerns about possible exposure, call the Help line at 1-800-222-1222. The service provides fast, expert advice that is free, confidential, and available 24/7/365.
