👑 Royal Empress Doula Services
Hospital Spotlight of the Week: Lakeland Regional Hospital 🤗

Yesterday, I had the honor of accompanying one of our Royal Empress families to Lakeland Regional Health, and I left truly impressed. The moment you step inside, the atmosphere shifts — everything feels renewed, intentional, and designed with families in mind.

The access points are exceptionally well‑structured, offering smooth navigation and a sense of safety from the start. Their elevator system is one of the most advanced I’ve encountered, complete with visible security features that help families feel protected and cared for.

What stood out most was the professionalism of the staff and the calm, peaceful energy that fills the space. It’s the kind of environment that supports birth with dignity, grounding, and ease — values we hold close at Royal Empress.

At this time, Lakeland Regional Health stands as one of the most impressive hospitals I’ve visited, with South Florida Baptist Hospital remaining a beautiful second for its warmth and commitment to patient-centered care.

Royal Empress Doula Services is proud to guide families toward birthing environments that honor safety, serenity, and sacred experience — and Lakeland Regional truly embodies that standard.

🌿 Birthworkers Recommendation: South Florida Baptist Hospital 🌿

As a doula who deeply values safe, compassionate, and sacred birthing environments, I want to highlight South Baptist Hospital in Lakeland, Florida as a truly supportive place for families.

This hospital consistently stands out for:

Some days motherhood feels natural…
and other days it feels like I’m learning from scratch.
But somehow, every day,
my baby still looks at me like I’m enough.

My baby sleeps in my arms like I’m their whole universe.
And I think about how one day…
they won’t need me like this.
So I hold them a little longer.
Even when my arms are tired.

Hospitals that we do not recommend are:

1. St. Joseph Women's Hospital in Tampa, Fl. They do not support doula services. EVER! You will have to advocate that your doula MUST attend your care. Side note: Triage care is better than the other areas at least from one experience so far.

2. Oak Hill Hospital in Spring Hill, FL. The labor and delivery side specifically is old fashioned, the staff is not attentive as they should be, and we have witnessed and heard of poor experiences everytime!

3. TGH in Spring Hill, Fl is also one that we don't recommend. Also very run down, and the care is not up to par like TGH in Tampa, FL and other more professional hospitals.

🌿 Herbal Baths for Prenatal & Postpartum Care

Herbal baths can be a gentle way to support your body both before and after birth. They may help ease soreness, promote relaxation, and provide a calming ritual of self-care.

✨ Important note: Herbal baths are generally safe, but they may not be suitable for everyone. If you are prone to infections, have very sensitive skin, or experience vaginal sensitivity, it’s best to avoid them or consult your healthcare provider first. Always listen to your body and stop if you feel any irritation.

---

🌹 Gentle Herbal Bath Recipe
A simple blend to promote comfort and relaxation:

- 1 cup dried rose petals – calming, heart-opening, and aromatic
- ½ cup dried chamomile flowers – soothing for skin and muscles
- ½ cup dried calendula flowers – supportive for skin healing

Instructions:
1. Place the herbs in a large heatproof bowl.
2. Pour 4–6 cups of boiling water over them.
3. Cover and let steep for 20–30 minutes.
4. Strain the liquid and add it to your warm bath.
5. Soak for 15–20 minutes, allowing the herbs to gently support your recovery.

---

🌸🌿Herbal baths may be used prenatally to help soften tissues and prepare the perineum, potentially reducing the degree of tearing during birth. They can also be used postpartum to soothe soreness and promote gentle healing.🌸🌿

🚨 Doula Access Alert: Know Before You Go 🚨

As a birth worker, I’ve witnessed firsthand how hospital policies can impact the presence and effectiveness of doula support—especially during cesarean births.

Some hospitals restrict doulas from being present in the operating room (OR) and recovery, which can leave birthing people without their chosen emotional and physical support during critical moments. This is not just a logistical issue—it’s a matter of informed consent, advocacy, and holistic care.

🛑 Hospital Policy Watchlist
The following facilities have been noted for limiting doula access in the OR and/or recovery:

- St. Joseph Women's Care Hospital – Tampa, FL

⚠️ What You Can Do:
- Ask about doula access policies before arriving at triage.
- Include your doula in birth planning conversations with your provider.
- Request written clarification on who can be present during all stages of birth.
- Know your rights and advocate for your birth team.

Your doula is not a visitor—they’re a vital part of your support system. Let’s keep pushing for transparency and inclusion in every birthing space.
