FPQC Partners, please share widely!

If you’re pregnant or expecting to be, ask your healthcare professional if you should be taking low dose aspirin to help reduce your risk of preeclampsia.

When prescribed, low dose aspirin—sometimes referred to as baby aspirin—can help to keep your baby and yourself safe from the risks of preeclampsia. Preeclampsia puts babies’ health at risk, can cause decreased growth, low birth weight, and early delivery. It puts you at risk for high blood pressure, liver and kidney damage, strokes, seizures, bleeding—and even death, if left untreated.

Visit marchofdimes.org/low dose for more information about preeclampsia and the safe use of low dose aspirin—when prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Attention CBO partners!

Request for Community-Based Organizations to Raise Awareness of Urgent Maternal Warning Signs in Pregnant and Postpartum People

The CDC Foundation is requesting proposals from community-based organizations (CBOs) who serve people who are pregnant or postpartum to help raise awareness about important health warning signs that can happen during and after pregnancy. This work is part of the national Hear Her® communication campaign, and many resources like videos and information sheets are available to help educate communities. Activities should also help improve communication among people who are pregnant or postpartum, their support networks (like partners, family, or friends), and their healthcare providers. This request is open to organizations nationwide, and special consideration will be given to CBOs serving Atlanta, Dallas/Ft. Worth, New Orleans, New York City, and/or St. Louis based on their higher proportions of Black people who are pregnant or postpartum. Up to six awards of $50,000 each are available. The deadline to apply is May 31, 2024 at 5:00pm EDT.

It's !
FPQC centers the voices of Florida's mothers and families through their participation in advisory and work groups as we develop and implement QI initiatives. FPQC hospitals incorporate these voices through the development of patient advisory counsels and inclusion on their QI team. Simultaneously, they continue to standardize their data collection, policies, processes, education delivery, and promote respectful care. These strategies are part of the larger effort to reduce outcome gaps and improve patient experience!

What are some of the goals for ?
✔️Increase access to and coverage of comprehensive high-quality maternal health services, including behavioral health services
✔️Ensure those giving birth are heard and are decisionmakers in accountable systems of care
✔️Advance data collection, standardization, transparency, research, and analysis
✔️Expand and diversify the maternal and child health (MCH) workforce
✔️Strengthen economic and social supports for people before, during, and after pregnancy

Happy World Doula Week! Per ACOG Committee Opinion Number 766: "Evidence suggests that, in addition to regular nursing care, continuous one-to-one emotional support provided by support personnel, such as a doula, is associated with improved outcomes for women in labor." In this ACOG Expert View, an OBGYN discusses why she chose to hire a doula for her own pregnancy: https://www.acog.org/womens-health/experts-and-stories/the-latest/im-an-ob-gyn-heres-why-i-had-a-doula-help-with-my-delivery

Doula support during the prenatal, delivery and post-partum periods can improve maternal health outcomes and having a positive impact on many of those conditions that contribute to maternal mortality. Research has shown that doula support can decrease the rate of c-sections and increase the likelihood of breastfeeding. Additionally doula support can decrease the rates of postpartum depression and anxiety, two contributors of pregnancy related deaths in Florida.

Please join FHA on Tuesday, March 26, 11:30 a.m. ET, to learn more about the role of Doulas; reimbursement for Doula services; and Integrating Doulas into the delivery process and care team.

Cathy Timuta, CEO, Florida Association of Healthy Start Coalitions, Inc.
