Heather Widmer-Lovesey LMHC CAP

Heather Widmer-Lovesey LMHC CAP Welcome! I'm a licensed mental health counselor specializing in trauma, attachment, impacts from childhood emotional neglect and other life impacts 🤍

Sometimes life offers us challenges that seem too overwhelming to take on by ourselves. We often ask, "How can I get through this?" Having someone there to guide us often makes life's overwhelming decisions and situations easier to handle. As a licensed mental health counselor and certified addictions professional it would be my honor to walk along side you as you partake in this life's beautiful journey. I strongly believe that getting outside our comfort zone is one key to seeing the changes we want in our lives. Although change can be scary, you will never be alone as you take that first step. I have a strong passion for helping others find their way in this world and finding the beauty that lives within. Being apart of an individual's personal growth and development is a humbling process that goes beyond words and explanation. I began working with the addictions and substance abuse population after witnessing a loved one struggle for many years. My heart developed a sense of compassion and urge to understand their struggles in some way but also to help others with similar issues. Through my own therapeutic journey, I have worked with some of the most beautiful, talented, complex, loving individuals that God has put on this earth.

A form of abuse we don’t typically hear about very often is abuse within the disability population, specifically from caregiver to those with disability and limitations

The disability population, considered to be a vulnerable population, rely heavily on caregivers to meet their physical and emotional needs. In some cases, caregivers can unfortunately use their position of caregiver as a way to gain control, appear to the outside world as noble, hold care over the individuals head or even withdraw care as a form of punishment

I have had the honor and privilege to work with such amazing individuals with disabilities over the years and have seen their lives transformed as they learned about the trauma and abuse in their own lives. Although it can be a heartbreaking journey, empowerment and healing can be found, boundaries can be set, and self advocacy be gained

I share this to spread awareness. Should you struggle with a disability, I see you. Should you need help, there is help

Meet Heather Lovesey!

• Tell us about yourself!
I am a licensed mental health counselor with certifications and trainings in attachment theory and accelerated resolution therapy. I specialize in trauma, attachment issues, and impacts from childhood emotional neglect.

• Biggest strength?
My biggest strength is my ability to help clients gain awareness and make connections between their current struggles and past experiences.

• Favorite time of day?
When I get home from work & am greeted by my pup, Patches, and my husband. When we have my step kids, it’s so special to have dinner together as a family.

• Best learning experience?
Becoming a wife and stepmom. Relationships teach you so much about yourself - good and not so good. My patient and loyal husband has healed many of my past wounds and becoming a stepmom has taught me new levels love and selflessness.

• Proudest accomplishment?
It’s tough to choose just one – I’m proud of my success in private practice as well as my marriage. I wanted flexibility with my schedule and rates in my practice, so I’m proud that I stuck with it. My husband and I are newlyweds (2 ½ years!), yet we’ve faced a lot of stress, and I consider it a huge accomplishment to overcome that and continue to support each other.

• Most inspirational woman in your life?
My mom for sure. She was a caregiver to my stepdad who just recently passed of ALS. Through taking care of him she exhibited strength, unconditional love, sacrifice. I admire her resilience, zest for life and perseverance.

• When are you inspired the most?
I’m constantly inspired by my clients, healing, a good sermon or speaker, art, music, and learning!

• Best splurge?
I bought myself a vintage limited edition Chanel bag last year. My first luxury purchase! Material splurges aside, my European tour in my late 20’s – I went to 9 different countries!

• Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
To practice contentment and appreciate all I’ve worked hard for. This allowed me to slow down and really practice gratitude.

• Three things you can’t live without?
Travel, laughter & a good skincare routine!

• Best compliment?
I’m always honored when someone has told me I’ve helped change their life.

• What are you most excited about right now?
This year I’m checking a weekend trip to Banff National Park with one of my best friends off my bucket list.

• How can others connect with you?

My mind goes so many places when I read this quote. It’s a beautiful life lived when we think outside ourselves. Mental health creates and causes an egocentric focus (my pain, my problems, my feelings, my needs), due to this it might be difficult to access our critical thinking which includes others life experiences. I work a lot with individuals who were never guided emotionally therefore never learned the aspect of emotional intelligence that considers others. If this is you, I encourage you to take intentional time in your week to self reflect. Reflect on what you did for someone else this week, reflect on how you felt or acted when you didn’t get what you wanted, reflect on ways you can be more validating to others and make things less about yourself. When I read this post my mind also goes to the people I work with who OVER do for others. Those that feel they don’t matter, others matter more. Those whose emotions were never validated, who worried more about their parents needs, siblings needs and no one minded their needs. If you are that person, I encourage boundaries and balance. It’s okay to not be everything for everyone all the time, and guilt may follow due to that. I hope you have someone whose safe to process all the complexities that this quote might bring up for you 🫶🏼
