Last call for Wi******er. He is on the euth list for space. The official term is kennel stress but the shelter is full. He is on the euth list for 8-26-24 if you can help him please email rescuemetampa@yahoo.com and rescuepets@hillsboroughcounty.org
Read this boys notes. He needs to be an only dog or adopted by an experienced owner who has time to allow him to decompress and slow proper training how to behave like a dog. He is very good with humans! Read his awesome notes!!!
15-AUG-24 - Foster - 08/15/24 17:09 Adventure Tail: Wi******er was a 10/10 passenger, who quietly laid in the back seat enjoying the cool A/C and the quiet contemplation of an afternoon unbothered by the noise of barking neighbors. In fact, this pup didn’t bark once during our day together. We began at Armature Works and took a short stroll along the Riverwalk. Wi******er walked on a leash like a champ, stopping to smell every plant along the way to savor this new experience. Next, we headed to Health Mutt where Winnie picked out his new toy - a bright squeaky turtle of his own! Then we had lunch at at outdoor bar where we shared sandwich bread. Wi******er loves attention and wanted to make friends with every person he met, soliciting pets and curiously approaching anyone who walked by. He was curious about other dogs along our walks but we kept distance on leash. To reward Mr. Wi******er for being the goodest boy today, we stopped at Bo’s Ice Cream for a cup of vanilla soft serve topped with mini milkbones! To say he enjoyed it is an understatement. On our way back to the shelter, Winnie nestled into the back seat and tried for a nap but he was just too excited to snooze! Wi******er would be a great companion for anyone looking for a young and energetic pup. He is eager to please and even began responding to basic commands like 'Sit' during our brief time together. With proper time and training I think he would thrive!
He is listed as a 2 year old mix. He is HW negative and weighs 45lbs.
08/15/24 17:35 Wi******er was standing at the door and pawing while being leashed. He walked with a heavy pull to the yard. He immediately picked up a toy and carried it around the entire time in the yard. He only dropped it to pick up a different toy or spend time chewing on it. He mostly stayed to himself but briefly solicited for attention once and allowed petting. When he saw dogs or people outside the yard, he approached with wagging tail. When CR began walking to the gate to leave the yard, Wi******er dropped the toy and started jumping up on CR and air snapping. CR ignored him and it took a couple seconds for him to stop. He walked with a heavy pull towards the kennels when returning and was easy to unleash.
grass, climbing, and sniffing in the tall plants. He’d come up briefly for a pet and treat; then off again to play. He enjoyed cuddling up for pets and tummy rubs between his explorations. He walked well back to his kennel.
07/12/24 Note from volunteer- Wi******er (A2387335) walked without pulling on a long walk with me, then to the play yard. He enjoyed chasing a toy, usually bringing it back and dropping it near me; then coming to me for a treat. Other times, he would just run playfully with it, trying to get me to chase. He was calm taking treats and would run up to me to lean on me for pets when I knelt. He had a puppy-like nature and was gentle with his play style. He walked calmly beside me, exploring wherever he chose as we returned.
06/21/24 14:50 Wi******er greeted staff at kennel with loose, relaxed body posture. He was easy to leash and pulled mildly while walking but ignored other dogs. Once in the yard he immediately greeted citizens with the same relaxed body posture. He spent the entire meet and greet running back and forth between the citizens, soliciting attention. He played fetch with a ball that he carried back to his kennel. No issues walking him back or unleashing h
