Therefore, if you or a friend/family member are located in the states below, I can provide therapy via telehealth to them on an ongoing basis. On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, PLEASE pledge to stop using the R-word. Teach your children to stop using it and to confidently tell their friends the same. It’s a slur like any other and it’s deeply rooted in very painful history for many beautiful people in this world. I’d also encourage everyone to get involved with organizations supporting people with disabilities and see how you make new friends! If you need ideas on how to do this, let me know and I will gladly help connect you! People are people are people….we ALL hurt the same. Don’t be part of creating that hurt!

Did You Know?

- An estimated 1.3 billion people experience significant disability. This represents 16% of the world’s population, or 1 in 6 of us.

-Some persons with disabilities die up to 20 years earlier than those without disabilities

-Persons with disabilities have twice the risk of developing conditions such as depression, asthma, diabetes, stroke, obesity or poor oral health.

-Health inequities arise from unfair conditions faced by persons with disabilities, including stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and barriers faced in the health system itself.

Join the and find ways in your everyday life to welcome and fight for the rights of people with disabilities….including listening to what they view as important, not just what the non-disabled community thinks is best!

One of the things I want more than anything else is to be vulnerable in my humanity along with my clients. I am far from perfect, I have broken parts of me that still need healing, and I have many more questions than I have answers. I’m at a time in my life where my soul needs nourishment, as I know so many of you do as well. I’ve decided to spend the next 9 months becoming intimately involved in a practice that reconnects me to nature, which has always been a calming and centering force for my soul. I truly believe our world is experiencing nature deficit disorder above and beyond all else, and within nature are many wonders and mysteries waiting to be explored. I am eager to grow in my personal journey, and in a year’s time, to truly shift the focus of my practice so that you can find the ways in which nature can start to heal broken parts of your soul too! I’m one weekend in, and already forever changed.

Are you experiencing high rates of stress as a parent? You’re not alone! A recent study as well as consistent annual data from the past 10 years (2013-2023) shows that perceived rates of stress are significantly higher for parents than for non-parents. This is not to say non-parents do not have stress—it just looks different!

So what to do?! The APA has compiled a list of ideas to help you manage this time of life as a parent. These are linked in the article pinned in the comments below and include:

* Talk About It
* Change Your Vantage Point on Parenting
* Make SMALL Changes
* Grow Your Parenting Skills
* Stop Saying “Should”
* Take Microbreaks
* Find Meaning

Even this list may seem daunting, so let’s start with the first in the list and work together! TALK ABOUT IT! Dr. B is here to help and navigate through the other steps with you.

You are never alone!

Recent studies are showing two trends parents need to know about tween/teen social media use—first, using screen time (or less of it) as a reward (or punishment) reinforces the child’s view of screens as desirable, and ends up being linked to the child using them MORE in the long run—and second, “why” a child uses screens is more important than the time spent, particularly if the mental energy spent thinking about it (e.g., social media) is extensive.

What’s the best way to handle this?

A new study shows that using screens as a reward may backfire for tweens and teens.

Do you or your child struggle with “popcorn brain” from too much screen time? It happens to the best of us. Even Dr. B catches herself scrolling on the phone while watching a show on TV! Here’s the reason why our brains have transformed, and ways to reduce this phenomenon. Remember, our brains are plastic and it’s never too late to rewire how we function…like the “old days” of the far away 1900’s 🤣🤣

Are you currently a part of the “Sandwich Generation?” If so, you’re not alone, and research shows it is quite possibly the most stressful season of one’s life. Navigating the complexities of middle-age adulthood while simultaneously caring for your children and your aging parents can be overwhelming, and leave very little gas in your tank for your own self-care! This is particularly true if you’re also trying to juggle your career, a healthy relationship with your partner, finances and home responsibilities….and who even remembers to eat or exercise in between?

On top of that, intense feelings of guilt, failure and grief can be all-consuming.

Taking time to refill your tank can start with regular therapy as a method of self-care, and to help you create reasonable and attainable goals to support your own mental and emotional wellness during this stage of your life!

🎉 To all my colleagues, friends and clients who called to push PSYPACT through in the state of Florida…THANK YOU! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

From the Florida Psychological Association: “I am pleased to report that there was a unanimous vote this morning. We anticipate the bill going to its second Senate committee next week. The chair of that committee is our sponsor, Senator Harrell, so we anticipate no problems. Thank you again to everyone who made phone calls- we even got Senator Burton‘s vote!The effective date of the legislation is July 1, 2023.

As soon as the bill is signed by the Governor, psychologists may initiate the PsyPACT process and will be eligible to serve patients July 1st. "

I have several clients alone who this will positively impact as I can start seeing them again for therapy via telehealth, and I know there are many more out there who can now access therapy services from their Florida provider even if they move away or go to school out of state. This is a HUGE win!!
