As a therapist, these are examples of the kinds of thoughts and patterns I hear from clients all the time. Because struggling with your mental health doesn’t always look the way people think it does.

Sometimes it looks like:
Showing up to work
Answering texts
Serving at church
Being productive
Smiling through conversations

…while internally feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected.

High-functioning doesn’t always mean healthy.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, I think it’s important to remember that some of the people struggling the most are the ones who appear “fine” on the outside.

These clips aren’t meant to represent my personal experience, but rather the reality that many people quietly carry every day.

You don’t have to hit a breaking point for your pain to matter, and you don’t have to carry it alone.

Control can feel like safety when you’re anxious.

If I can just think it through enough… plan enough… prepare enough… then maybe I’ll feel okay.

But more control doesn’t always create more peace.
Sometimes it just creates more pressure.

Real peace is found in learning you don’t have to hold everything together on your own.
In releasing what was never yours to carry.
In trusting God even when things feel uncertain.

That’s not easy. But it is freeing. 🤍

Sometimes when we feel anxious, we reach for whatever gives quick relief… even if it’s not actually helping us in the long run. 💛

Overthinking, avoiding, numbing out, seeking constant reassurance — they can feel like coping, but often they’re just ways we try to escape the discomfort.

Real healing usually looks different.
Slower. More intentional. Sometimes even uncomfortable.

Noticing the difference is where change begins.
