Happy WOC Nurse Week! April 12-18 is set aside to honor wound, ostomy, and continence nurses. 🎉

According to the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society - WOCN, "WOC nurses respond to the acute and rehabilitative needs of people with select disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems. They also provide direct care to people with abdominal stomas, wounds, fistulas, drains, pressure injuries, and/or continence disorders."

WOC nurses are registered nurses with a bachelor's degree or higher who have completed specialized education in WOC, either through an accredited WOC nursing education program or relevant experience.

Happy Radiological and Imaging Nurses Day! Today we recognize the vital work radiology nurses do every day. 🩻

According to NurseJournal, "Radiology nurses specialize in radiation therapy and diagnostic imaging." This in-demand specialty requires an Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), registered nurse licensure, and 1-2 years of work experience. Many positions also require the certified radiology nurse (CRN) credential.

Next month, the Florida Center for Nursing will present "Emergency Shelters in Florida and Mental Health in Disasters," a virtual symposium focused on emergency shelters and the critical role nurses play during disaster response on Thursday, May 28, at 11am ET.

There is no cost for this event, and continuing education credits will be available, fully sponsored by the FCN.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Identify major types of shelters in Florida
2. Describe shelter operations and nursing responsibilities

Happy Occupational Health Nursing Week! 🎉

According to the AAOHN - American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, "Occupational and environmental health nursing is the specialty practice that provides for and delivers health and safety programs and services to workers, worker populations, and community groups."

OHNs are registered nurses, many of whom have earned their MSN. Certification in occupational and environmental health nursing is highly recommended, though Florida does not require it.
