Tampa Bay Mycological Society

Tampa Bay Mycological Society The study and appreciation of mycology and the inimitable role of Kingdom Fungi in our environment and society. Cultivation, education, empowerment!

Although the Kingdom Fungi plays an inimitable role in our environment and has exponential potential for bioremediation, medicinal, and sustainability uses, there is still scarce research and even discussion on this subject compared to other areas of science. The purpose of this society is to bring increased mycological education, activity, and enthusiasm to the Tampa Bay area. Fungi can benefit and be used in quite literally in every area of life and by spreading awareness about these amazing organisms, empowerment and stronger communities and healthier environments will result. There will be many opportunities for events, lectures/discussions, forays, conservation work, research, and all sorts of mycological projects. Topics of education and potential projects include (but certainly not limited to): fungi in the garden and food security, composting, growing cultures, fungi in medicine (anticancer, immuno-stimulant, psychological therapies), fungi in conservation (how all organisms rely on fungi as decomposers), fungi in bioremediation (the awing biochemical pathways of fungi and their capacity for enzymatic innovation), fungi as a material (the amazing molecule of chitin; fungi as paper and dyes, etc), influence of fungi on culture and the evolution of life, and so much more! This group is currently in its growing phase but I know our momentum is inevitable, and we create a revolution in this community! There are many opportunities for collaborating with other organizations, schools, businesses, venues, etc. I want to hear any and all ideas and input!
