🎉💙💛 Happy September Birthdays! 💛💙🎉

From sky to ground, our Aeromed family is always ready to answer the call — but today, we’re calling out something extra special: our amazing crew celebrating birthdays this month! 🚁🎂

Thank you for the dedication, heart, and humor you bring to every shift. We hope your birthday is filled with all the things you love (and maybe a slice of cake between calls 😉).

🕊️ September is Su***de Prevention Month 🕊️

At TGH Aeromed, we know the weight carried by healthcare workers and first responders is heavy and at times, unbearable. The long nights, difficult calls, and unspoken sacrifices often take a toll that can’t be seen.

This month, we honor you; our colleagues, partners, and friends. For your courage, your service, and your humanity. 💙💛

➡️ Please remember: you are never alone. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.
📞 988 — Su***de & Crisis Lifeline (available 24/7)

💡 Did you know? TGH Aeromed obtained a facility dog through Valor Service Dogs to support our team members when they need it most. 🐾 Walker is specially trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of PTSD — stepping in to break the cycle and provide comfort. While she is not a cure, she is a valued member of our team and a step towards lessening the weight our team members carry.

Together, we can break the stigma, support one another, and ensure that everyone who serves our community feels the same care they give so selflessly.

✨👏 Congratulations, Amanda! 👏✨

We’re proud to officially welcome Flight Nurse Amanda to the skies! 🚁 Friday morning, she received her badge from Aeromed Clinical Educator, Matt, marking the completion of our rigorous Aeromed Flight Crew Orientation Program.

This achievement is no small feat—our orientation averages 16 weeks and includes:
✅ Didactic education
✅ Hands-on skills labs
✅ Clinical rotations
✅ Shifts at multiple bases
✅ Ongoing skills check points with our clinical educator and preceptors

Through this process, Amanda gained a well-rounded understanding of flight physiology, advanced critical care devices and concepts, Aeromed operations, patient care, medical protocols, and advanced procedures training.

This is a huge accomplishment, and we couldn’t be prouder. A special thank you to all of Amanda’s Aeromed preceptors who dedicated their time and expertise to ensure her success. 💙💛

Please join us in celebrating Amanda as she transitions into a full fledged flight crew member! 🚁💙💛

🚁🔥 Meet the Crew: Lead Flight Paramedic Chuck Nelson 🔥🚁

Nearly three decades in EMS. Almost three with Aeromed. A career built on safety, excellence and grit. That’s Chuck.

Why Aeromed? Chuck doesn’t hesitate:
“The reason I wanted to fly with Aeromed was the safety culture they had and the chance to provide a higher level of care than I could through the Fire Dept at that time.”

And after all these years? “My favorite thing about my job is no 2 days are the same. One flight you could be transporting a newborn and the next flight a 90 y/o… As Trace Adkins says, we do what we do because we love it.”

How did he get hooked? After a shadow shift, of course!
“The day we flew we had 4 flights, and I was hooked. I get seasick pretty easily and was worried, but I never got queasy and have never gotten sick. I have turned green a couple of times though and don’t like going in circles.”

Of course, it hasn’t always been smooth flying:
“When I started my EMS career I was doing my very first hospital rotation when EMS brought in a burn pt. Well apparently, I passed out and woke up in a chair with my instructor leaning over me telling me I may want to find a new career. I’m proud to say, I proved him wrong — but to this day I still do not like burn pt’s.”

And his advice for anyone wanting to follow in his footsteps?
“For someone coming into this field you will never stop learning… Get your certifications, take classes, and get all the experience you can. Do a ride along to make sure it is what you want because pt care in the small helicopter with just the 2 of you is a lot different than in the back of a Rescue or ambulance with lots of room and several people helping.”

💛💙 Chuck’s seen it all, done it all, and still comes back with the same drive that brought him to Aeromed in ’99. Around here, they joke that he’s only got “1 feeling” — but trust us, that one runs deep.

🚨 When every second counts… 🚁

Yesterday, Aeromed 4 had the privilege of working alongside our partners at Winter Haven Fire Department – Engine 3 and Rescue 229 to care for a patient experiencing a medical emergency.

From the moment we touched down, it was clear: this was a team effort. Fire, EMS, and flight crews coming together with one goal — giving this patient the best possible chance.

It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. Grateful to serve with such dedicated professionals on the ground and in the air. 💙

Thank you, Chief Miller, for the awesome photos!

🚁💉 MEET THE CREW: Flight Nurse Donny
🎉 31 Years of Nursing | 24 Years with Aeromed | 100% OG

Let’s just say… Flight Nurse Donny’s been around the block (and maybe even helped build it). When you’ve got decades of experience, off-road racing cred, and a sharp wit — you know we had to sit him down for a Q&A. 👇

👨‍⚕️ How long have you been doing this?
“Been a nurse 31 years (stop laughing). With Aeromed 24 years — yes, that makes me one of the old guys.”

🚁 Why Aeromed?
“When Chuck and I started, it was either Aeromed or a horse-drawn carriage… and I wasn’t about to clean up after the horse.
But after years of flying fixed-wing, a great friend invited me to spend a day with the Aeromed team. After spending a day with the flight team, it was really a simple choice, seeing the passion for HEMS that this team had. From the medical director through the flight crews and communications staff, you could see it was family. I knew then that this was the place to be.”

🚁How did you get into flight nursing?
“Started with a casual golf game. A buddy’s wife was a chief flight nurse at a fixed wing program. One question led to a tour… which led to a shadow shift… next thing I knew, I was filling out an application. Best job decision ever.”

🏁 Fun Fact:
“I’m an avid off-road racer on 2 wheels! On weekends, you’ll find me camping in a cow pasture, racing through the woods with my second family. I also run an all-volunteer medical/safety team supporting the sport.”

💡 Donny’s Advice for Future Flight Nurses:
“Don’t rush. Make a plan.
Talk to flight crews, pick their brains (we’ve all been where you are). Do a shadow shift. Get your licenses, your ICU/ER experience…those will make you a great flight team member when the time comes.

👏 Let’s hear it for Donny — the guy with the stories, the skills, and the secret stash of racing gear. What Donny didn’t share is that he was in integral part of the creation and ex*****on of our K-9 care & transport program! Got a question for him? Drop it below! 👇
