The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay had the honor of attending this morning’s announcement of Jay Collins as Florida’s new Lieutenant Governor. Throughout his tenure as a state senator, Lieutenant Governor Collins has been a strong advocate for the Crisis Center’s work, particularly in the area of behavioral health care for veterans and first responders. We look forward to continued collaboration to support those who rely on the essential services we provide to the community!

July marked one year that Crisis Center Intervention Specialists have been working alongside the Tampa Police Department Dispatch team to support community members. When calls come into 911 that have a behavioral health component, the call is transferred to our specialists to provide emotional support and connections to community resources while law enforcement responds as needed. In total, 739 calls were routed to our specialists, with 153 of those callers having thoughts of su***de. The teams worked together to achieve a 54% diversion rate, meaning that 54% of calls were de-escalated and a law enforcement officer no longer needed to respond. We are excited to see how this collaboration can continue to support our community members in their times of need!
