G R A T E FU L | It’s “feeling heard” for me...

That was one of the BEST compliments I could ever receive. 💗

As a healthcare professional I’ve witnessed men and women afraid to speak their truth, and as a woman, I’ve experienced it myself.

Being able to work with another woman who felt heard in my care is the biggest reward!!

Yes I went to school and learned textbook answers and treatments that are backed by research, BUT I also understand there is a whole person on the receiving end.

It’s disappointing when a patient tells me, “My doctor didn’t listen”, or “They said it’s all in my head.”

✋🏾 Let me tell you, YOU know your body best. So when something is not right, advocate for yourself and find a healthcare professional that hears you and will guide you.

Do you ever question whether you’re too old to workout?
..Your muscles play a huge role in your function.

From providing stability, balance, strength, energy...the list goes on and on.

📍 With that said, it’s important to remember that exercise and being healthy is not reserved for Instagram models, personal trainers, health care professionals, or “the young ones”. 👀

📍 We ALL benefit from it and owe it to ourselves to be the best version of ourselves, even in the later seasons of life.

We don’t have control of it all BUT we can decide to give it our all!

C H A N G E | I don’t love it but I know there wouldn’t be growth without it.⁠

I was talking to my aunt today and we chatted about what it means to evolve.⁠

We are constantly evolving. The things we like, the things we don’t like, the things we need, the things we want, the things that serve us, and the things that don’t....they change.⁠

Our bodies are no different. ⁠

Yes you’re getting older (sorry to tell you), BUT the beauty in that is that you are blessed to keep changing, growing, and evolving.⁠

Did you know by the age of 75 our cardiovascular system operates less than half of its full capacity, making it challenging to do daily tasks like walk to and from the mailbox?⁠

BUT 🤗 research shows that with daily moderate physical activity you can reverse it at ANY age!⁠

There’s so much power in that! ⁠

So no...we can’t control everything that happens to us as we age, but we can make small changes that will better how we age.⁠

CHANGE your mindset. CHANGE your habits and see how you evolve. 💕 ⁠

..I say this as I search on Amazon for new workout clothes. HA! 🙇🏾‍♀️

How about you make use of the ones you have before even thinking about getting more 😂.

This can be applied in so many areas of our lives, including our health.

I had a conversation with a friend about this yesterday and it was a💡 moment!

How many of us have stacks and stacks of workout DVDs and get fit quick programs because we want more abs or a bigger 🍑, but haven’t mastered the basics?!? 👀

This is why I chose to go back to the basics in my fitness routine.

It’s nothing super glam BUT I’m building a solid foundation with INTENTIONAL movement, I’ve been consistent, actually enjoying the process (sorry no burpees), and I am seeing results!

All in preparation for whats to come...new workout clothes! 😜

Annd a hip that doesn’t go in and out of place, feeling my best, and looking my best.

Do you ever experience front shoulder pain with push ups and pull ups?

That just might be your body telling you to switch it up girl!

Exercises like push ups and pull-ups target the muscle groups in the front of your chest and shoulder.

As a result, they can be the cause of front shoulder pain. In addition to poor postural habits and repetitive movement.

SO, to keep things balanced you want to work your PULL and postural muscles like the 👇🏾

• Rhomboids
• Middle Trap (trapezius)
• Rotator cuff (infraspinatus & teres minor)
• Deltoid

Yes! All those muscles in one move!

The move: Horizontal Abduction

How to do it:

I use a wall as a tactile cue to engage my core and prevent my trunk from rotating.

Press your back against the wall.

Raise your arms to shoulder height and press your shoulders down away from your ears.

Squeeze your shoulder blades together (like you’re squeezing a penny).

Holding the ends of your band, pull your arms apart, making sure to keep your shoulders away from your ears the entire time.

Repeat!
