Too many babies die from unsafe sleep practices. I've participated in a county review board and it seemed there were 2 or 3 new cases each month. We've counseled moms against unsafe sleep repeatedly in the hospital only to have them come back to the ER with a dead baby.

Unsafe sleep practices may directly contribute to an increased risk of sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) among infants prenatally exposed to substances. Experts suggest additional emphasis on safe sleep practices and education for families impacted by substance use as targeted secondary SUID prevention strategies are needed: https://bit.ly/4ewNbGI
