For pediatric patients who missed their own prom because of hospitalization — or who may never have the opportunity due to chronic, serious conditions — prom night at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is so much more than a dance. With this year’s Dream Big theme, patients traded their hospital gowns for formal attire to participate in one of childhood’s most meaningful milestones. For a few magical hours, diagnoses faded into the background and dreams took center stage. 💙🕺💃

“Prom gives hospitalized kids the chance to step out of the identity of ‘patient’ and experience a sense of normalcy in a place that often feels anything but normal. It allows them to reclaim a piece of their childhood or adolescence that illness or injury has interrupted,” said Child Life Supervisor Leslie Dempsey.

Big thanks to all who helped make this memorable evening possible, including the St. Joseph's Children's Hospital Foundation, Dunkin' Joy In Childhood Foundation and our Child Life team.

April is National Donate Life Month. In recognition of this special month and in honor of all those who chose the gift of donation, we held an honorary flag raising in the hospital courtyard. We are honored to support patients and families in their organ donation decisions.

We also recently celebrated National Donate Life Month Blue & Green Spirit Week! We recognized donors and gave hope to those waiting for a second chance at life.

Child Life Specialist Brittany was right by 2-year-old Tristyn’s side in our pre-op area as he prepared for surgery on his foot. Using medical play, Brittany showed him how the anesthesia mask and “sleepy medicine” works. Through preparation and gentle reassurance, she helped Tristyn feel calm and ready for surgery. This is the power of Child Life, and we’re so grateful for it.
