Yerba de la Negrita, Scarlet Globemallow, or Sphaeralcea ambigua is our herb of the week. Its beautiful orange flowers are still in bloom in some places.
It’s a native Mallow and creates a wonderfully healing mucilage, great for scalp and skin healing, or drunk as a tea during cold and even allergy season.
As with all demulcents, it’s supportive to the digestive system all the way through.
We use locally harvested Sphaeralcea in our Yerba Hair Care, our plant based hair care line.

Herb Highlight 🛀🌼 Escoba de la Vibora, Snakebroom, or Gutierrezia sarothrae
The flowers on this beautifully bright small bush, blooming now (late summer/early fall), are tiny but mighty.
Used traditionally in baths to help soothe an aching body. Either bring the flowers in the bath, or more effectively, make a tea with it and add to a bath. Can be drunk in small portions, or used as a poultice.
There is a lot of tradition and history with this plant. Stop in to chat about it!
Not recommended during pregnancy, unless under supervision of a midwife/doctor.
If you harvest it, we recommend you rinse it in water before hanging to dry, as it can get quite dusty.
