Upeksa, Dear Friends, as referenced in Yoga Sutra 1.33, is indifference, neutrality, or equanimity. It is advised to adopt an attitude of upeksa when meeting our adversaries and those whose actions are erroneous. This does not mean we accept their actions, or spurn our responsibilities, but upeksa keeps us calm. When we are calm, we can respond skillfully. This, of course, is easier said than done, that is why we practice.
In our yoga practice this week we will put upeksa to the test as we play with balancing yoga asanas. If the wind blows will we fall over, or get angry and frustrated, or will we keep our peripheral view broad and our focus central? These physical postures bring balance and equanimity to our heart-mind so we can act and not react.
