Happy Guru Purnima! On this day we honor all of the teachers who have dedicated their lives to the service of humanity, and who have shared their experiences and wisdom with us so that we also have tools to serve the highest good of all humankind, the Earth and all species we share it with.

I canceled my trip to Perú to be by my sweet mama’s side as she transitions to the spirit world. I am missing my Peruvian family, but there is no place I’d rather be than with my siblings and our beloved mother. The first photo was taken about a month ago. She looks a lot different these days but still has that loving smile. In my time up on the mountain, as she lie sleeping, I sewed her a dress for her union with the divine. She has a lot to process of her 91 years of life, so the letting go process is gradual, yet eminent. I am so eternally grateful for her beauty and strength and her artistic way of life. She bore 7 children and I got to be one of them! Such a cool mama. We are doing all we can, thanks to the support of to keep her comfortable. May her transition be peaceful, whenever the time is right.

Upeksa, Dear Friends, as referenced in Yoga Sutra 1.33, is indifference, neutrality, or equanimity. It is advised to adopt an attitude of upeksa when meeting our adversaries and those whose actions are erroneous. This does not mean we accept their actions, or spurn our responsibilities, but upeksa keeps us calm. When we are calm, we can respond skillfully. This, of course, is easier said than done, that is why we practice.

In our yoga practice this week we will put upeksa to the test as we play with balancing yoga asanas. If the wind blows will we fall over, or get angry and frustrated, or will we keep our peripheral view broad and our focus central? These physical postures bring balance and equanimity to our heart-mind so we can act and not react.

Please join us on Tuesday, February 11, 9:30-11:00 AM MT via Zoom, or on your own schedule with the class recording. All who register will receive a class recording to view for one week. Register via the link in bio, or at sonyaluz.com/classes-1

Prana is the mother of all vayus and animates all living beings. It is the movement of consciousness and the stirrer of spirit. When prana is in balance the mind is calm and the heart is content.

In this week’s on-line yoga class, we aim to open the lungs, heart, and rib basket with side bending, varied back arching, and supported inversions. These actions free the bird of prana, increasing circulation and respiratory function, and infuse the whole system with vitality and joy.

I hope to share this enlivening practice with you on Tuesday, June 4, 9:30 - 11:00 AM MT, or on your own schedule via the class recording. All who register will receive a class recording to view for one week. Variations will be offered for all levels.

The vayus, or internal winds, work together for optimum flow and freedom through the body, mind and heart. Samana vayu governs digestion and assimilation of food and of life’s experiences. In this week’s class we will tonify the liver, kidneys, and small intestine by squeezing and soaking the belly and solar plexus area. Or asana set includes lengthening the upper psoas, and toning and bringing space and circulation into the abdomen. The practice also invites investigation into mental, emotional, and physical nourishment.
Explore Samana Vayu on-line Tuesday, May 28, 9:30 - 11:00 AM MT or on your own schedule via the class recording. All who register will receive a class recording to view for one week.

Beginning Tuesday, May 21, I’m offering a five-week on-line course on the vayus. Each week we’ll explore the elements, energetics, and body systems that correlate to each vayu with asana, meditation and breath awareness. The vayus , or winds of the body, are: apana, moving downward; samana, circulating; prana, expanding; udana, upward; vyana, all pervasive.
You can join in for all five weeks or drop-in when you like. The classes are Tuesdays, 9:30-11:00 AM Mountain Time. All who register will receive a class recording to view for one week. Register via the link in my bio or at sonyaluz.com/classes-1

There is also an in-person five-week course on the vayus in Taos, NM,with room for one more person. DM for details.
