This sweet little baby, weighing in at 7 pounds and 2 ounces, was born to proud parents Zoe Roberson and Aden Craig at 2:28 a.m. on Jan. 2. As we wrap up 2025, we're excited to highlight the incredible accomplishments ECU Health celebrated this year.

We earned national recognition for quality, including five-star CMS ratings for Duplin and Bertie Hospitals, top cardiac surgery rankings for the East Carolina Heart Institute and continued honors from the Get With The Guidelines® program. We also launched pediatric robotic surgery and telecardiology in Edenton, introduced the region’s first Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation program and expanded the Pediatric Asthma Program into rural schools and opened the IMPACT Clinic for perinatal substance use care.

As we look to 2026, we remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and improve the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina.

Kenneth Gregory, nurse practitioner at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital, recently received a Salus Luminare award for his work with patients experiencing opioid overdose or withdrawal who also needed continued outpatient care.

“I wanted to help an overlooked population and make a positive change. There is a huge opioid problem in this state. The hope was we could decompress the ED and save a life or two,” Gregory said. “Safety improves the quality of care we provide. I was in the army for six years, and there was this fundamental thought: always try to improve your situation,” Gregory said. “That’s how I think about my work here, and safety is a part of that.”

ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital extends heartfelt gratitude to Piggly Wiggly Central Business Office and the dedicated employees at the stores in Ahoskie, Farmville, Nashville, Pinetops, Rocky Mount and Wilson.

Each store helped raise breast cancer awareness by selling ribbons and bracelets. Thanks to your generosity, the funds collected will provide comfort items for patients undergoing treatment, free mammograms for those in need, educational materials, medications for patients and more.

We are to stand together to support the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina. Thank you for your commitment and compassion.
