All Food Labels Do Not Tell The Truth!
Don’t be tricked by the “Label” folks. Health claims on packaged food are designed to lure you into buying. Remember-Things aren’t always as they seem.
Start understanding what the so called “healthy words” used on labels really mean on many products. Don’t get frustrated or overwhelmed. It takes time, but if you stick with it, everything becomes extremely easy to spot. A game changer in helping you achieve your personal goals. Below is just one part of understanding what is in or what is not in your food.
* Gluten-Free: “Gluten-Free” doesn’t always mean healthy. Gluten-free only means that the product simply doesn’t contain wheat, spelt, rye, or barley. Many gluten-free foods are highly processed and loaded with unhealthy fats & hidden sugar names. Yes, there are some great Gluten Free products, but some are also frauds.
* Organic: Organic labels doesn’t mean a product is healthy. News Flash- “Organic Sugar” is still Sugar! … high amount of sugar can easily turn into fat.
* No added sugar: Some products are naturally high in sugar. The fact that they don’t have added sugar doesn’t mean they’re healthy. The biggest thing to look for is sugar substitutes hidden in words you never heard of. A Quick Fix- Google the word
* Low-fat: This label usually means that the fat has been reduced at the cost of adding more sugar. Be very careful and read the ingredients list. Look it up & learn
* Multigrain: Sounds very healthy but doesn’t mean a darn thing except that a product contains more than one type of grain. Most likely refined grains, unless the product is marked “whole grain”. Even on “Whole Grain”, you should check the ingredients list, whole grains should be the top first three
* Natural: The only thing that a product has to be to qualify as “Natural”, is the product simply indicates that at one point the manufacturer worked with a natural source like apples or rice. How’s that for your natural picks? lol
* Natural Fruit-flavored: Some products like certain strawberry yogurt brands, may not contain any fruit in them at all. These have chemicals designed to taste like fruit.
Don’t go from zero to hero in trying to learn everything at once. Gradually change your lifestyle. Check out your pantry, fridge and look for the words above. See if the brands you’re using are as healthy as you thought. Give me a holler and let me know what you find!
