Preventing bedsores is an essential part of providing safe and compassionate care for individuals with limited mobility. Bedsores can develop quickly when pressure is placed on the same areas of the body for too long, especially on the heels, hips, back, and elbows.
Proper prevention starts with repositioning every 2 hours to relieve pressure and improve circulation. Using pillows and cushions helps protect sensitive areas and keeps the body properly aligned. It’s also important to keep the skin clean and dry, changing any wet clothing or briefs promptly to avoid irritation and breakdown.
Caregivers should ensure that heels are elevated off the bed, and apply skin protectants or barrier creams to reduce moisture-related damage. Daily skin checks are critical to catch any redness or early signs of pressure before they worsen.
With consistent attention, proper techniques, and compassionate care, bedsores can often be prevented—helping individuals remain comfortable, safe, and dignified.

I love when the family and the client love the caregivers! Especially when they ask for them when they have not them for a day or two due to illness, appoints or vacation! It let me know they are doing what the family wants.
