It's been one year since IAHD held its first yoga class led by Inner Being LLC. 365 days later, we can't imagine a week without it! Thank you to Karen and everyone at Inner Being for everything they have done for the people we support through their immersion into the world of yoga and meditation week after week. We are so lucky to have you as one of our community partners and can't wait for all the yoga classes in the years to come.

Developmental Disability Awareness Month (DDAM) takes place every March, during which the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) selects a theme to focus on during the month. This year’s theme is called “We’re Here All Year” with the goal of making the discussions about and visibility of with Developmental Disabilities common year-round, instead of just during the month of March.

The picture above show some of the individuals supported by IAHD doing things like shopping, eating at restaurants, going to museums, and supporting their favorite sports teams! This post and DDAM as a whole are a reminder that people’s abilities do not define them nor limit them in the ways they navigate the communities they live in and the world.

As March and DDAM end, IAHD hopes that everyone continues championing and advocating for people with disabilities— like those we support at IAHD— in April and all the months to come!

Our Story

IAHD's mission is to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the Bronx and Westchester County, to create and build fulfilling lives based on their hopes, dreams and aspirations. We start by listening to each person, celebrating and respecting their unique qualities and strengths.

IAHD offers supports including Self-Direction, Day Habilitation, Pre-Vocational, Supportive Employment and Customized Work Opportunities, Residential Options, Community Habilitation, Respite and Family Support Programs. IAHD also offers Sunday and overnight respite programs to address parental need for supports for their members and themselves.

Our goal is to empower each person in their life's journey. We believe that each person brings a set of individual qualities to the table and given the right supports can maximize their potential. We believe in nurturing mutually respectful partnerships with families, communities, providers and professionals.
