IAHD exists to provide supports to adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) throughout the Bronx and Westchester counties. IAHD is committed to providing opportunities for self-actualization and growth regardless of the extent of a person's disability. IAHD takes pride in its long history of collaboration with energetic parents who continue to make important contributions to the success of the agency. March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month! New York's I/DD system urgently needs more funding to ensure stability for people with disabilities, their families, and providers. A strong budget creates a strong care system.

Yesterday, we filled the Capitol with a strong and clear message: New York must invest in I/DD services and the workforce that cares for them. Today was the day! We called on legislators for a 2.7% targeted inflationary increase, CareForce affordability initiatives, and childcare and healthcare enhancements.

A HUGE thank you to Rep. George Latimer for visiting IAHD and presenting our CEO, Omayra Andino, with a Congressional Record honoring her outstanding work as Mayor of the Village of Tuckahoe.

During his visit, Congressman Rep. George Latimer took time to hear directly from DSP's and the people we support about the urgent need to strengthen Medicaid funding and prevent cuts. He was asked to continue championing living wages for DSP's, who provide essential care to New Yorkers with significant support needs.

We are grateful for his visit, his partnership, and his continued advocacy.

Our Story

IAHD's mission is to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the Bronx and Westchester County, to create and build fulfilling lives based on their hopes, dreams and aspirations. We start by listening to each person, celebrating and respecting their unique qualities and strengths.

IAHD offers supports including Self-Direction, Day Habilitation, Pre-Vocational, Supportive Employment and Customized Work Opportunities, Residential Options, Community Habilitation, Respite and Family Support Programs. IAHD also offers Sunday and overnight respite programs to address parental need for supports for their members and themselves.

Our goal is to empower each person in their life's journey. We believe that each person brings a set of individual qualities to the table and given the right supports can maximize their potential. We believe in nurturing mutually respectful partnerships with families, communities, providers and professionals.
