Such a fierce and powerful poetic vision Sylvia Plath had-I so wish she had lived to see how prescient and powerful her words were.

I absolutely adore this quote of hers. The job of the poet is to notice all these colors.

Here are two I wrote the other day that transforms an ordinary moment into something of poetry.

Night Visions

There are some who tend darkness
in light, or after dreamy residue
of their own darkest glimmer,

unlike those
who touch darkness
while in darkness

feel their way
to its center

blind bards making epics
from common confusion:

it is to them
I trust my night visions.

Aubade

Is the poet’s job
to notice, report,
and just get
out of the way

ascending
a ski lift late
January, twilight, amber
and white lights turn
on like stars
and snow
becomes sky,

I now have
the closest seat
to the source.

Lucky hears me whistle ‘bye, bye blackbird’ for the first time, and reacts the same way I did upon first hearing Miles play it.

And God’s honest truth, we listened to the recording together afterward, and I thought to myself:

He looks so darn thoughtful, introspective, and artsy.

And look at the way he placed that tennis ball in the blurred distance, as if to say, how can we play when there are such important existential questions to answer??
