Breastlink has more than 20 years of experience providing women with optimal breast care. The center offers women in the San Fernando Valley advanced breast imaging services including diagnostic and screening digital mammography; ultrasound (breast and general); bone densitometry (DEXA); and the following interventional breast procedures: stereotactic, ultrasound guided and punch biopsies, ductograms, fine needle and cyst aspirations. Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), included MRI guided biopsies, is available nearby at San Fernando Interventional Radiology (breastlink.com). All radiologists at Breastlink Tarzana have a specialty fellowship in breast imaging and exclusively interpret these tests. This enhances their ability to accurately interpret imaging studies.

“Even as a young girl, I knew I wanted to be a doctor…”

For Dr. Lisa Guerra, inspiration came from her grandmother, an Army nurse and educator who encouraged her passion for medicine and believed surgery would be the right path. That encouragement, along with her grandmother’s own breast cancer journey, ultimately led Dr. Guerra to pursue a career in breast surgical oncology.

Today, Dr. Guerra is a board-certified, breast-dedicated surgeon at Breastlink Newport Beach, with expertise in areas such as oncoplastic surgery, intraoperative radiation therapy, and the management of high-risk patients. She has also contributed to breast cancer research and clinical trials, helping advance care for women in our community.

This weekend, we sponsored our first Women’s Health Event at the LA Mission on Skid Row. Women received free screening mammograms provided by the Maddy Mobile Mammography Coach, participated in a yoga class, enjoyed complimentary haircuts and lunch, learned about job opportunities with JVS Socal and took part in vision board activities designed to inspire and empower.

For many women living at the shelter, access to preventive healthcare services like mammograms can be difficult due to barriers such as transportation, cost, and limited resources. Bringing these services directly to the community helps ensure more women have the opportunity to prioritize their health and receive potentially life-saving screenings.

Creating spaces where women feel supported in caring for their health is at the heart of what we do. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to the teams and partners who helped make this meaningful day possible. 💗

In honor of Women’s History Month, we recognize Betty Ford, a woman whose courage helped change the conversation around breast cancer.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1974, Betty Ford openly shared her experience with the public at a time when the disease was rarely discussed. Her honesty helped remove stigma, encouraged women to talk about breast health, and inspired millions to prioritize early detection and screening.

What became known as the “Betty Ford Blip” led to a significant rise in women scheduling mammograms and making their breast health a priority.

Her advocacy continues to impact women’s health today, reminding us that awareness and education can save lives. 💗
