Cooking over the years!👩🏻🍳
Cooking is the practice of combining, mixing, and preparing foods. But, it’s much more than that. Over the years, I have developed the skill of cooking by watching my mom, grandmother, my own children, friends, and even new acquaintances while traveling to Italy and Spain. It has been a journey of trial and error and failures and successes.
Cooking is more than combing ingredients! Cooking brings people together. It’s a way of sharing one’s culture, where you came from, and who you are. Cooking provides opportunity to try new foods and explore new recipes with your family. And, eating the meals you prepare together as a family can foster positive food behaviors and a healthy relationship with food. Studies actually show that children who eat with their family, at least three days a week, have a larger vocabulary, do better in school, and avoid drugs and alcohol.
I know cooking takes planning, preparation, clean up, and a lot of time and energy. And for us who work full time and are raising a family, or who grew up in a non-cooking family, it can be quite challenging. But, understand, the more organized and prepared you are and with practice, you could feed your family well with home cooked meals. Cooking does not have to be daily. With creative planning, you can use leftovers to simplify your meal preparation.
