Leadership Lake County

Leadership Lake County Leadership Lake County provides a forum for participants to increase their awareness and commitment to the development of the Lake County community.

Leadership Lake County was founded in 1991 by a prominent group of community members who wanted to educate, inspire, and ultimately develop impassioned leaders within the county. Annual class participants represent the diverse and broad cross-section of industries, ages, and nationalities that comprise the evolving makeup of Lake County. Program Details
Each year, current and emerging leaders are

identified and recruited into the program which kicks off in October with an overnight retreat designed to build teamwork, enhance leadership skills, and examine the societal aspects facing our county. In total, Leadership Lake County is a nine-session program that offers intensive, day-long learning experiences that cover the important impact areas within our community:

 Education
Media
Healthcare
Agriculture
Criminal Justice
Government
Economic Development
Overall quality of life that makes Lake County special

Additionally, two internships must be completed to graduate. The hands-on experiences include a unique combination of lectures, tours and behind-the-scenes activities all designed to create participation and involvement among members.

After graduation in May, class members commit to a second year of “giving back” to their community. A series of fundraisers culminate with a class project or series of initiatives all designed to leave a lasting impact and make a difference in the county. The momentum continues on through the tight-knit Leadership Alumni group with community initiatives and planned networking events scheduled throughout the year.

🇺🇸 Leadership is honoring freedom through action. 🇺🇸

"Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and human dignity."
— Herbert Hoover
This 4th of July, may we lead with courage, integrity, and purpose—uplifting others and protecting the values that make freedom meaningful.

☀️ Hello, Summer — and Hello to a Season of Leadership Growth! 🌻
The first day of summer is a reminder that with longer days and brighter skies comes the perfect time to grow — not just gardens, but leaders too. 🌱
Just like summer encourages us to slow down and soak in the sunshine, great leaders know the value of pausing to reflect, recharging, and reconnecting with their purpose.
This season, let’s:
🌞 Lead with clarity
🌞 Cultivate strong relationships
🌞 Stay flexible, even when plans shift like summer weather
🌞 Make space for creativity and collaboration
Leadership doesn’t take a summer break — but it can flourish when we lead with warmth, energy, and vision.

Not all leaders wear suits.
Some wear worn-out sneakers, carry sleepy kids to bed, and show up every single day—no matter what.

This Father’s Day, I’m reminded that leadership doesn’t start in the boardroom.
It starts at home.

It’s in the quiet sacrifices.
The early mornings.
The late nights.
The patience.
The protection.
The guidance.
The love without conditions.

Fathers—and father figures—teach us some of life’s most powerful leadership lessons:

💪 Show up when it’s hard.
🙏 Lead with humility, not ego.
👉 Be the example, not just the voice.
👍 Protect and provide, not just physically—but emotionally too.
👉 Teach others how to stand tall, by first bending down to lift them up.

To every dad out there who’s doing their best, leading with heart, and shaping the next generation—thank you.
You’re building more than memories.
You’re building leaders.

Happy Father’s Day. 💙

"Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad, and that's why I call you dad, because you are so special to me. You taught me the game and you taught me how to play it right." – Wade Boggs

🧑‍🎓Thursday night we celebrated the Class of 2025 and the 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees- Bettye Coney (Class of 1992) and Chuck Hiott (Class of 2009). The evening started like the Class year did with a rain storm. This Class has "Rocked it Like a Hurricane " like the song title. They were delayed twice because of hurricanes and ended with a rain storm. We honored two deserving alumni by inducting Bettye Coney and Chuck Hiott. To see more pictures from the night go to our website. www.leadershiplakefl.com. 🧑‍🎓

🌅"I grew up in Lake County and had the opportunity to be in the Best Class Ever-Class of 2019. It was an amazing experience. I met incredible people and learned things about Lake County that I did not realize was in Lake County. We visited schools, LCSO facilities, and learned about companies like Senniger- a manufacturer and designer of quality irrigation solutions. I ended the year with more knowledge about Lake County in Agriculture, Education, Justice, Healthcare, Media, Human Services and Quality of Life. Most important I ended with a group of lifelong friends. I made connections that I have called on since graduating. I have know moved on to being the Program Director of Leadership Lake County and I hope that you have as good if not a better experience during the class and learn about becoming a better leader at work and in your personal life." 🌅

📄Applications for the Class of 2026 are due this Friday, May 30, 2025. Email me at ProgramDirector@LeadershipLakeFl.com for an application. Don't wait, do it now for a great experience! Joanie 🌞
