Liquid Liquid Extraction or LLE is when you pull certain compounds from solvent A to solvent B which are not miscible together.
In this scenario I'll be cleaning and purifying distillate by combining it with Heptane. Once homogenized, I will add a 10% baking soda solution of distilled water. This should balance my pH allowing unwanted compounds to leave the distillate organic phase and into the water phase. Once completed my distillate should be water clear and free from any contaminated compounds or by-products. Salt solutions and citric acid solutions are also important to the secondary washes to remove impurities and unwanted compounds.
Just a peice of advice... not all laboratories do post-processing LLE clean up procedures. So honestly, you are trusting them by their word to give you a "clean" product.
