Alexander Hospice celebrated their 40th annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on Thursday, May 15th at their office located at 50 Lucy Echerd Lane in Taylorsville. This yearly event honors the hospice volunteers and board members that sacrifice their time to support the hospice philosophy and help make a difference in the lives of hospice patients and their families. Alexander Hospice greatly appreciates the countless hours that each of the volunteers and board members contribute to the local non-profit organization.
Being that Alexander Hospice was started in 1985, the celebration was held accordinglyโฆtaking it way back to the 80โs! The nostalgic theme was a blast from the past! Volunteers showed up with big hair, big voices, and even bigger hearts! They are, no doubt, the rock stars that totally keep everything moving and their dedication and energy are what keep everything radical. Alexander Hospice is like, totally grateful for each and every one of them. They make a bodacious difference in the care provided to patients and families.
Dinner was graciously donated by Jasonโs Deli of Hickory. The delicious cake, 80โs-themed especially for the event, was donated by Three Forks Cakes.
Following the meal, the crowd enjoyed a totally tubular 80's themed karaoke session cause everyone knowsโฆthe 80's was musicโs best decade!
To close out the evening, local area businesses generously donated items that were used as door prizes. Alexander Hospice would like to thank each of these establishments for their donations: Blumenthal Arts, Boxcar Grill of Statesville, Brushy Mountain Golf Course, Bumgarner Oil, Crossroads Grill, Giovanni's Pizza, Grandfather Mountain, Heritage Deli, Hickory Community Theater, Hickory Crawdads, K-Love Radio, Lazy 5 Ranch, Little Stitches, Park Vista Hotel, PJโs Seafood and Steak, Renaissance Festival, Riverbanks Zoo, Southern Grace Gift Co., The Dairy Bar, The Green Room, Victory Shine Car Wash, and Village Inn Pizza.
We would also like to publicly thank Adams Funeral Home, Alexander Funeral Service, and Thriventโs Community Impact Program for their extra contributions to making the event a success!
Hospice Board Members are local citizens and leaders who serve on a volunteer basis for a three-year term. They are responsible for the general oversight of the organization in accordance with its bylaws. Each member of our Board brings a unique perspective, and they all share a commitment and passion to work together to find meaningful ways to help the patients and families we serve.
Hospice Volunteers are people who volunteer their time to support the various activities of the organization. Volunteers come from and represent a wide variety of unique skills, experiences and styles which, if appropriately tapped, can greatly enhance the function and scope of services provided by hospice, in addition to reducing costs. Volunteers play a vital role in the work of Hospiceโฆin fact, it is federally mandated under Medicare that five percent of all patient care hours be provided by trained volunteers.
Volunteers receive comprehensive training, while enjoying flexible hours, interesting and rewarding work assignments, but most of all, hospice volunteers make a difference in the lives of hospice patients and their families.
We have proudly served the citizens of this county since 1985. Over the years, numerous volunteers and board members have given countless time and effort to support the organization. Are you looking to make a difference? Are you searching for a meaningful experience? Do you have the time to commit? You too can become a Hospice Volunteer! If interested, please contact Tina Mitchell, Volunteer Coordinator, at our office at 828-632-5026. Hospice of Alexander is your only hometown non-profit hospice provider. We promise to be there when you need us.
