Charles Lee Ferguson, age 68, of Hickory, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at his home.
Charles was born January 6, 1957, in Maryland, the son of the late Clifford Chapman Ferguson and Dorothy Irene Chandler Ferguson.
Charles worked in the construction industry and was of the Christian faith. He loved his puppy “Baby Boy” which he got at 6 weeks old now 2 years old. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with cars. Charles also was a truck driver and traveled the United States. He was a good-hearted man, not selfish and a man of few words, he was kind and had a unique sense of humor.
Loved ones left to cherish and honor his memories include: his sisters, Reba Ferguson Pennell, Debbie Messer (Jim), JoAnn Bean all of Taylorsville; his brother, Alan Ferguson (Teri) of VA; and a number of nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Three Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Kevin Brown will officiate.

Walter Craig Childers, 73, of Taylorsville, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on July 23, 1952, to the late Walter Columbus Childers Jr. and Nancy Huitt Childers.
He was a graduate of Taylorsville High School. Craig spent his life rooted in the land he loved. From an early age, he found joy and purpose in farming – raising livestock and watching each season’s work bloom into harvest. In his early years, he worked for FCX, then later at Walmart.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by: one sister, Cynthia Warren; his wife and the mother of his children, Brenda Childers.
Loved ones left to cherish his memory include: his daughter, Amanda Childers of Taylorsville; his son, Curtis Childers, and fiancé, Whitney Harrington of Taylorsville; a special grandson, Cole Childers, of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Chloe, Emery, Adley, and Gabe all of Taylorsville; a godson, Matthew Marin and family of Conover; a brother Jerry Childers and wife, Patti, of Clemmons; a special brother-in-law, Owen Icenhour, and companion, Libby Call; a brother-in-law, Gary Warren; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Sandra Warren, who was always there when needed.
The family will conduct a Celebration of Life Service on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Oscar Shepherd will officiate.
The family will receive friends following the service.

Dale McCurdy, age 77, of the Vashti Community, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his family who loved him so dearly, following a brief illness.
Dale was born on September 27, 1948, in Iredell County, the son of the late Jack McCurdy and Ruby “Sarah” Childers McCurdy.
Dale faithfully attended Freedom Baptist Church in Hiddenite. He was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, spending time with his friends, eating breakfast with his buddies, and eating lunch with his farmer friends. He enjoyed life to the fullest and having a good time no matter what was going on. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, telling funny old stories and making them laugh.
Including his parents he was preceded in death by: a son-in-law, Bob Leenerts.
Those left to honor and cherish his memories include: his wife, Brenda Barnwell McCurdy, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage on October 27; his daughters, Enita Leenerts, Tina Walker (Mark), Jenny Davis (Jody); his son, Jason McCurdy (Sarah); his grandchildren, Atina Elder (Donny), Nici Leenerts, Jackson Walker, Dawson Walker (Amber), Gretchen Davis, Parker Davis, Zack McCurdy, Zander McCurdy, Camden McCurdy, Carsyn McCurdy; one great grandson, Winston Walker; and a great granddaughter due in January; a sister, Tammy Ball (Frank); his nephews, Brandon Ball (Sierra), Kevin Ball; great nephew, Mason Ball; great niece, Hadley Ball; a sister-in-law, Cindy Cole (Keith) and their children.
The funeral service will be held at 3p.m., Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Freedom Baptist Church. Pastor Dr. Sam Vallini will officiate. Burial will follow in the Vashti Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the service.
Pallbearers include: Greg Millsaps, Zac Schnitker, Jason Wike, Brent Smith, Wes Smith, and Brandon Ball.
Honorary Pallbearers include: Charles Buchanan, John Cleary, Kevin Ball, Don Hammer, David Clanton, and Britten Stafford.

Suma Bumgarner Hicks, age 91, of Newton, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at The Greens of Hickory.
Suma was born April 26, 1934, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Chaunce Bumgarner and Sadie Deal Bumgarner.
Suma worked in textiles most of her working career for Newton Glove and also Carolina Glove. She was a member of Little River Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing ball, bingo, and going fishing. She also loved to garden and enjoyed painting.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Wike and nine siblings.
Those left to cherish and honor Suma’s memories include: her daughters, Mitzi Ledford (Wayne), Michelle Beshara (Chris) all of Newton; her son, Rev. Bill Orren (Sherrie) of Taylorsville; her grandchildren, Daniel Neil Orren (Belinda), Joey Beshara, Zack Orren (Parker), Josh Bradshaw, Khoury Beshara; seven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Millersville Baptist Church. Pastor Kane Yates and Pastor Bill Orren will officiate.

Jerry Mayes, age 83, of Taylorsville, departed this life during the early morning hours of Monday, October 27, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on September 14, 1942, in Alexander County, the son of the late Nellie Mildred Mayes. He was a graduate of Happy Plains High School, where he was the salutatorian of his class. After graduation, he worked for Schneider Mills for many years and served as a supervisor until his retirement. Jerry accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of the Baptist faith. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and musician. He was also active in his community as a member and past president of the Taylorsville Lions Club, and a member of the Taylorsville Jaycees. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed NASCAR and go-kart racing. He also loved gospel music.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother; his son, Lee Gary Mayes; his brother, Willis Mayes Sr.; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Mayes; and his niece, Peggy Marie Parker.
Those left to cherish and honor Jerry’s memory include his loving wife of 61 years, Clara Flowers Mayes; his children, Michael Mayes of Denver, NC, Curtis Mayes of Owings, MD, and Tilara Mayes Sims (Lee) of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tashia Gray (Joey) of Griffin, GA; Shaykila Mayes of Hickory; and Caleiah and Camryn Sims of VA; as well as his great-grandchildren: Zyon Watson, Saige Gray, and Camille Gray, all of GA.
Additional survivors include his sister, Suma Nell Watts of Taylorsville; and nieces, Clarissa El, Theresa M. Dalton (Kenneth), and Ingrid M. Smith (Marvin), Zenobia Gaines (Chris); and nephews, Kirk Douglas Barker, Dean Barker, and Willis Mayes (Tonya). He is also survived by his godson, Linc Howell, and special neighbors and family friends, Richard Wellman and Adrian Redmond.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Vince Linney serving as Eulogist and Rev. William Little officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 90 East in Taylorsville.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Mr. Mayes’ body will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home.

Kay Francis Barker, age 81, of Taylorsville, transitioned from this life on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Kay was born December 2, 1943, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Cecil Barker and Hattie Hines Barker.
Kay was a 1962 graduate of Happy Plains High School, Taylorsville, NC. She was the Valedictorian of the class following high school she attended Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC. Kay was of the Baptist faith and a former member of New Zion Baptist Church. She worked at Beaunit Mills which was acquired by Burlington in Statesville, where she retired. She continued to work at Millersville Daycare, and Alexander County Head-start.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by: her sisters, Emma Lee Mauney, Clara Barker Little; her brothers, Lainey Barker, Jimmy Barker, and Phillip Barker and a number of nieces and nephews.
Those left to cherish Kay’s memories are her sisters, Martha Jane Howell of Taylorsville, and Elizabeth Ann Howard (Sterling) of Taylorsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; her fur baby, Chloe.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2025, in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor William Little-Eulogist and Pastor Jerry Ellis-Officiating. Burial will follow in the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Betty Jean Sprinkle Patterson, age 98, of Taylorsville, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville.
Betty was born March 11, 1927, in Alexander County, the daughter of Hugh Paul Sprinkle and Ida Belle Adams Sprinkle.
Betty graduated from Hiddenite High School during World War II (1944). After high school she moved to Charlotte, NC and worked in accounting for Southern Bell. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Edgar Wayne Patterson, Jr. after the war. They lived in New York twice, 2 ½ years each time when Wayne was with the Kendall Company. They made their home in Charlotte where she was active in the Spring Valley Garden Club and enjoyed their friends.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Edgar Wayne Patterson, Jr. of 66 years; her brother, Paul Conrad Sprinkle; her sister, Marjorie Ida Belle Lackey (Phil).
Those left to cherish and honor Betty’s memories include: her sister, Doris Martin (Jay) of Cary, NC; her brothers, Douglas Sprinkle and Donald Sprinkle; her sister-in-law, Jerry Sprinkle of Charlotte, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews and their children.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Shady Grove Cemetery. Dr. James Smith will officiate.
Pallbearers include: Scott Sprinkle, Rodney Sprinkle, Eric Sprinkle, Phillip Lackey, and Jeff Martin.

Rodney Dale Bentley, age 57, formerly of Hiddenite, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Rodney was born December 7, 1967, in Alexander County, the son of Harold Bentley and Gaye Jolly Bentley of Taylorsville.
Rodney was a self-employed freight broker and a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. He loved to go to flea markets and enjoyed antiques. He liked almost all sports, especially baseball.
Including his parents, those left to cherish and honor Rodney’s memories include: son, Seth Branch (Kristin) of Hudson; his daughter, Lacey Branch of Marion; his grandchildren, Sophiea, Skylan, Landon, Laurel; his brother, Randy Bentley of Taylorsville.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. Dr. James Smith, Pastor Matt Cranford, and Pastor Tim Jolly will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

William Joseph Towe, age 63, of Hickory, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Carolina Caring in Newton.
William was born December 20, 1961, in Onondaga County, NY, the son of Marion Lagassie Gill and the late David Gill.
William was of the Catholic faith and when he was able to work, he was a machinist. He loved working on electronics, playing the guitar, and when he was able enjoyed working outside.
Including his father, he was preceded in death by: a sister, Paula Towe and a brother, William John Towe.
Including his mother, those left to cherish and honor William’s memories include: his wife, Revonda Self Towe of the home; his daughters, Alicia Towe of the home, Amber Towe (Justin Colley) of Granite Falls, Amanda Towe of the home; his son, Adam Towe of the home; his grandson, Tyler Colley; his sisters, Kelly Cloninger (Mark), Sheryl Briggs (Howard) all of Catawba County; his brother, Randy Towe of Kentucky; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
