Steve Allen Fox passed away peacefully at his home in South Pomfret, VT on September 2, 2025 at the age of 79. He was born on March 13, 1946 to loving parents, Talley Taft and Reno Cline Fox, and grew up on the family farm in Granite Falls, NC.
Steve was a man of humility and accomplishment. He earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from NC State in 1969. After graduating, he worked on the gas centrifuge at Union Carbide Nuclear Corporation in Oak Ridge, TN. He later joined CommScope in Hickory, NC and, while at the company, was assigned patents for the development of low loss, high velocity cables including P1, P2, P3 and QR, which became industry standards. In 1980, he founded Normag Corporation, where he helped to develop the polymer gear pump for precision extrusion of plastics and manufactured these pumps for US and international markets. He also developed and patented the high pressure viscoseal for gear pumps used worldwide today. In 1995, he founded NiTech Corporation to market a patented coating process he developed. Today, NiTech manufactures pelletized asphalt for the US Air Force and other agencies for paving airfields and roads. Steve’s entrepreneurial spirit and tireless commitment to his work defined his long and successful career.
Childhood sparks of curiosity that prompted him to take apart and reassemble farm equipment led to a life of creativity, invention and nearly twenty US and International patents.
