Hi, everyone! Bible study will be continuing tomorrow so there will be no group! I am thinking about postponing the meetings, and starting again in the Fall! This seems like it would give the groups time to find members! Thank you, and I will keep everyone updated!

06/13/2022

Hello, everyone! Bible study is taking place at the church, tonight, and in response to this, there will be no adult meeting at 6:30 PM. Sorry for the late notice!

06/13/2022

Hello, everyone! I am actively working on trying to spread the word about the meetings to more adolescents and adults, but I am now aware of the fact that it may take time to develop reoccurring members! If anyone has any questions about the meetings, please send me a message.

If you are anything like me, going to social events can be pretty daunting if you do not know what to expect. I thought it may be beneficial to walk through what will take place at our first meetings! (Reminder: meetings start tomorrow, and will take place every Monday unless specified!)

First, we will begin with a few introductions. As the peer facilitator, I will introduce myself! This means that every member of the group will leave with at least one new friend. After that, I will briefly discuss the purpose of the group, as well as some guidelines to ensure the group runs smoothly.

Then, there will be an opportunity for group members to introduce themselves! I have a few icebreakers planned! These require communication, but will not be cheesy or embarrassing. I remember feeling slightly anxious on the first day of school, knowing I would have to recall a silly fact about myself, so I hope everyone will find these activities interesting as opposed to scary!

Next, time will be allotted for members of the group to share and express. Other members will give support, or simply listen! Every member will have the option to participate. After speaking, I will ask if the member would like support, comments, or questions. You have the right to speak or choose to stay silent as a member!

Finally, we will wrap up the meeting. I will warn everyone ten minutes prior to the closing time. I will ask for any comments or questions. This is also a great time to share how group may impact you in the week after the meeting, until we meet again!

What are the benefits of attending a mental health support group? Mental health support groups provide numerous benefits! Here are just a few:
• The primary benefit of mental health support groups is inclusion. Feeling like you are not alone is greatly beneficial, especially when connecting with others who have had similar emotions and experiences.
• Mental health support groups provide a safe, caring space to express your emotions. A great first step in the process of healing is being able to share your thoughts and feelings.
• Mental health support groups have been shown to increase hope among members. Having shared positivity and encouragement creates an environment that motivates growth.
• While support groups are not a replacement to traditional therapy, they can be helpful supplementally. A group environment may allow an individual to make progress outside of the typical clinical environment through peer socialization.
• Mental health support groups do not offer advice, but they can offer suggestions of resources that have been experienced by other members of the group. This may lead to group members gaining insight or different perspectives they may not have thought about, on their own, before!
