Our hearts go out to the Herderhorst family and all of our brothers at The Champaign Fire Department.

The Champaign Fire Department is profoundly sad to announce the death of Firefighter Trevor Herderhorst from cancer in the early morning hours of April 25, 2021. Trevor loved being a firefighter and was proud to be a Champaign firefighter. Trevor faithfully served the City of Champaign and will be tremendously missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Arrangements are pending!

WALK IN MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC OPENS TO THE PUBLIC, COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE AND NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED

The events of the last 12 months have taken a toll on everyone, and the need for mental health services has skyrocketed. Thankfully, Memorial Medical Center has opened the "Living Room", which offers a safe and calming atmosphere where guests can receive support from peer and mental health professionals. Upon arrival, guests will answer a few questions and then will be linked with a peer counselor.

The Living Room offers:

Safe, calm space
Crisis intervention
Safety planning
Problem-solving
Help connecting with healthcare, food and housing resources
Support from professionals with mental health experience
Access to internet
Light refreshments
Follow-up services

In addition to the Living Room, Memorial Behavioral Health launched a free emotional support hotline to the public. The number is 217-588-5509. The hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

If you or anyone you know is struggling or having a hard time right now, know that you are not alone. There is help available...please plug into these local resources. Mental health is very important to keep an eye on and there is no stigma in anyone admitting that they could use a little help right now. It's OK to not be OK. 💚

Christian County is under a tornado warning at this time.

Just to be clear, the tornado spotted was near Virden IL with a predicted path leading into the county. Was not included in the previous post, due to quickly timing of alerting of the warning.
