Family Traditions Bakery

Family Traditions Bakery Providing quality specialty cakes and baked goods by order only.

Family Traditions Bakery, (Formerly, A Family Tradition Of Baked Goods) is a culmination of years of experience between myself, my mother (and my late father) in baking for family and friends. We have entered numerous county and state fair level culinary contests winning numerous awards, prizes and ribbons over the years, including the Illinois Blue Ribbon Contest. Baking has always been our past time and a way to share with others what we love to do! 2013 was our first year baking and selling at the local Farmer's Market. Despite being a difficult year in 2015 with my dad's illness and subsequent death, we had a successful year and hope we made a lot of new and return customers. So with this page, we hope to carry on our tradition and continue to provide baked goods for others to enjoy!

At this time, I am going to have to put cake decorating on hold until I can determine if I am able to work a 40 hour job and also have time to bake and decorate cakes.

BACK TO WORK STARTING 10/18/24!!!

This was a combined effort by myself and my former Kitchen Manager/Assistant Courtney Minks for a prepaid 9/14/24 wedding. I wasn't able to do the decorating/icing design since I wasn't supposed to look down chin to chest so I showed her how to do my "bark technique" and we both worked on the fondant work, flower placement and sugar candy pearl placement. Turned out beautiful I think! Teamwork makes the dream work.

UPDATE: Dr said everything looks good but he wants the current restrictions to remain in place and for me to do range of motion exercises until my next appointment the beginning of October. So I guess I'm still out until then. Blah! I'm no good at sitting still with nothing to do.

HELLO EVERYONE!!! Just thought since I was getting phone calls for cakes for this weekend, I would give an update on my surgery recovery process.

Surgery went well on August 26th!!!! I will say so far this is the easiest surgery I have ever had (including C-sections and a hysterectomy...sorry if TMI but those surgeries were brutal.!!!) Voice is still a little hoarse and I get occasional muscle spasms in my L shoulder (but they say that is normal with 3 level cervical neck fusions), but I can eat almost completely normally now (just a little bit of inflammation in my throat still). On the good side, I have lost 6+ pounds in 10 days!!!! I'll take it! My off balance is for the most part GONE (Woohoo!!!!!) unless I try to turn and move real fast at the same time so it will take some retraining to regain my equilibrium completely. I am still limited to no more than 5 lbs of lifting, pulling, pushing, bending and no chin to chest or looking down. Do you know how hard that is not to do???? Like everything you do involves something in that restriction!!!

Well my follow up appointment is tomorrow, so I will have updated restrictions tomorrow I assume. I will update this post then.

Well, back to being EXTREMELY BORED!!! I can sit about 20 minutes at the computer before my neck says NOPE, QUIT. And living in the country means no cable, so local antennae only. Blah. Luckily, I'm not much for watching TV. Almost time to take one of my daily walks around the property.

Recent cakes... These are the last until I can decorate again after surgery.

1. Horsing around. (8/17)
2. Pokemon
3. Minecraft
4. Olivio Rodriquez
5. Red and pink cupcakes (my grandson's baby shower. I'm obsessed with the petal cupcake liners.)
6. Bluey duck cake. (Do not ever attempt to put one together like they do on video online. IT DOES NOT HOLD TOGETHER IN TRANSPORT.! I will sculpt and put it together a totally different way next time.)

Since I only had 1 texas sheet cake (and 1 batch makes 2) for a preorder (and nothing for thumbprints or monster cookies) , I will have 1 texas sheet cake available at 11:30 tomorrow. If anyone wants it it will be $17 (the darned pans went up to $4 each.... grrrr), let me know if you want plain or pecans.

I will take pre-orders for the 24th for texas sheet cakes, thumbprints and monster cookies, same price as in previous post. You must message me with your pre-order so I can get supplies.

Since surgery had been rescheduled until August 26th, I am taking PREORDERS for August 17th for .....

1. Texas Sheet Cakes (6 total). One batch makes 2 cakes so I need at least 1 order for (2) or 2 orders for 1 each. Also need to know with or without pecans. $17 each.

2. Monster Cookies. Bakery sized. $3.00 each

3. Thumbprints. One batch makes 8 dozen and a half batch makes 4 dozen, so I will need at least orders for a total of 4 dozen cookies.

Pickup time will be between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday the 17th. Message me with your order!
