Well Being Retreat Center

Well Being Retreat Center We're a non-profit retreat center on 160 peaceful acres surrounded by river in Northeast TN. We offer hosted retreats and welcome outside retreat leaders.

Mostly organic meals and a quiet space for stillness, presence, and connection with nature. When Well Being Retreat Center was purchased in 2008, there was only an old barn here. Since then, we have constructed four Earth-Sheltered Cabins, the more conventionally built Wood Duck Cabin, the Retreat Center Building, six Cabinettes, six tiny houses, and the Powell River Pavilion. These facilities are available for wellness workshops, Yoga retreats, mindfulness programs, meditation retreats, personal retreats & sabbaticals, family reunions, civic meetings, church groups, ecological conferences and similar.

For Well Being’s Chicken curry, we make the curry powder from scratch, dry roasting the spices and then blending them to get a fresh and fragment curry powder.

Don Oakley and Patty Bottari lead weekend retreats nearly every month at Well Being Retreat Center in Tennessee. These retreats are an opportunity to discover the essence of your own being as spacious, ever-present awareness.

These retreats are open to anyone with a sincere desire to discover what is most essential to one’s own beingness. The talks are not religious, but Don draws on a variety of nondual traditions.

Don will offer several discourses, an extended guided meditation and dialogue (Q&A) sessions; Patty will lead the Silent Sittings (meditations).

There will be plenty of time to enjoy the silence, explore Well Being’s 160 acres of Nature and walk along our 2 ½ miles of frontage on the scenic Powell River.

We provide supper upon arrival and lunch at the end of retreat Sunday at Noon. The cabins have kitchenettes, but the Cabinettes do not. The Cabinettes are for those wanting private accommodations.

These retreats are now available both in-person and live-streamed.

We’re very appreciative for all the volunteers who help to serve meals for retreat events at Well Being Retreat Center. It’s a great way to meet other people and support the retreat function and learn about healthy, nutritious cooking.

Our gardener, Mike Noland, grew some beautiful green cabbages that have been preserved as sauerkraut. Only salt is added. The salt combines with juices from the shredded cabbage resulting in a natural fermentation process. Sauerkraut prepared this way has enzymes and probiotics that have many health benefits. Most store-bought sauerkraut creates the tangy taste simply by adding vinegar and lacks much of this health benefit.

Two meals will be provided by Well Being; Sunday’s supper on arrival and New Year’s day lunch at the end of the retreat. Cabins are equipped with kitchenettes where you can prepare your remaining meals. Those staying in cabinettes will have access to the Conference Building’s kitchen to prepare meals.

The scenic Powell River surrounds the land for 2 1/2 miles. We have constructed four Earth-Sheltered Cabins, six Tiny Houses, the Wood Duck Cabin, the Retreat Center Building, six Cabinettes, and the Powell River Pavilion. These facilities are available for wellness workshops, Yoga retreats, mindfulness programs, meditation retreats, personal retreats & sabbaticals, family reunions, church groups, ecological conferences and similar. Nature and silence abound.

“It is a very beautiful, peaceful place indeed. And infused with the kind, loving, humble, big hearts of Don and Patty. I've spoken to a number of people who have done retreats at venues all over the US. Well Being Retreat Center is always the favorite.” - David C.
