POV: You think your teen isn’t making progress in therapy... but then you start noticing these subtle changes 👀✹

As parents, we often look for big, obvious breakthroughs. But real progress in teen therapy? It shows up in the small moments.

Maybe they put their phone down during dinner. Or you catch them actually listening instead of just waiting to talk. Perhaps they’re practicing conversations in their room (yes, that’s actually a WIN! 🎭).

These aren’t signs that therapy isn’t working...they’re proof it IS.

Your teen is quietly building the social skills that will serve them for life. The confidence to set boundaries. The empathy to truly connect. The resilience to handle conflict without losing friendships.

Swipe to see the signs you might be missing âžĄïž

Progress isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s as quiet as your teen choosing to hang out in person instead of texting. Sometimes it’s them saying “I feel...” instead of slamming their door.

Trust the process. Trust your teen. And most importantly—trust that small changes lead to big transformations. 💙

Anyone else feeling a little “off” lately? You’re definitely not alone.

As we move deeper into September, many people start noticing subtle changes in their mood, energy, and motivation. That summer spark might feel dimmer, tasks feel harder, and your usual coping strategies might not be working as well.

Here’s what’s happening: your brain and body are responding to real environmental changes - shorter days, shifting schedules, and the psychological transition from summer’s freedom to fall’s structure.

For some, these are temporary adjustments. For others, they might be early signs of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which can start setting in as early as late September.

The important thing to know? These feelings are valid, common, and completely treatable. You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through the darker months.

If you’re noticing persistent mood changes that interfere with your daily life, reaching out for support now - before symptoms potentially intensify - can make all the difference in how you experience the rest of fall and winter.

Swipe through to understand what might be happening and when it’s time to seek support.

You know that feeling when someone asks you a question and your immediate reaction is to deflect or change the subject? That’s your brain protecting you from something it thinks you can’t handle.

But here’s the thing - the questions that make you want to run are usually the exact ones you need to sit with. They’re pointing directly at the patterns keeping you stuck, the dynamics draining your energy, and the choices you’re making without even realizing it.

Most of us spend so much time trying to feel better that we never actually get better. We smooth things over, avoid the hard conversations, and wonder why we keep ending up in the same situations with different people.

These three questions aren’t designed to make you feel good. They’re designed to wake you up to what’s really happening in your relationships - the stuff you’ve been too scared or too tired to look at.

Because real growth? It doesn’t happen when you’re comfortable. It happens when you’re willing to get honest about the patterns that aren’t working anymore.

Ready to stop running from the hard questions?

Back-to-school season is here, and if you’re feeling a mix of excitement and dread, you’re definitely not alone.

The transition from summer’s flexible routines to structured school days can bring up big feelings for kids and parents alike. That knot in your stomach when your child says they’re worried about school? Completely normal.

Here’s the thing - back-to-school anxiety doesn’t have to derail your family’s entire fall. With some thoughtful preparation and the right strategies, you can help your child feel confident and ready rather than overwhelmed.

We’ve put together 8 practical approaches that actually work, based on what we know about childhood anxiety and development. These aren’t just theoretical tips - they’re strategies you can start using this week to help your child feel more prepared.

Swipe through to see how small changes in routine, validation, and connection can make a huge difference in how your child experiences this transition.

If your child’s school anxiety feels overwhelming or persistent, remember that professional support can be incredibly helpful. Sometimes having someone outside the family to talk through these big feelings makes all the difference.

We see this pattern constantly in our practice, and it’s something we work through with our clients all the time.

Brilliant, accomplished people who’ve spent their entire lives making sure everyone else is comfortable while completely neglecting their own needs.

They come to therapy exhausted, resentful, and feeling invisible - but they still can’t say no to one more request.

People-pleasing isn’t kindness. It’s often a trauma response developed early in life when love felt conditional on being “good” and not causing problems.

The hardest part? People-pleasers are usually the last to recognize these patterns in themselves. They’re so focused on everyone else’s emotional temperature that they’ve lost touch with their own.

But here’s what we know: Your worth isn’t conditional on what you do for others. You deserve relationships where you can be authentically yourself - needs, boundaries, and all.

Which statement resonated most with you? 👇

The hardest part of parenting isn’t protecting them from pain or discomfort - it’s watching them hurt and knowing that stepping in would actually hurt them more.

It’s sitting on your hands when your kid forgets their project again because you know rescuing them teaches them nothing about responsibility.

It’s watching them get their heart broken by a friend and not immediately calling that kid’s mom (even though you really, really want to).

The instinct to fix, rescue, and smooth over every bump is so strong.

But every time you give in to that urge, you rob your kids of the chance to build their own resilience muscles.

Some days you’ll get it right. Some days you won’t. But you’re learning that the goal isn’t perfection - it’s progress.

Which truth hit the hardest? Tell us in the comments. 👇

I know I’ve been talking a lot about process groups but let’s talk for a minute about good ole fashioned CBT groups.

When a group is virtual, using Google Jamboard (see my Jamboard highlight if you don’t know what this is!) can be a really fun way to do psychoeducation interactively.

What I’ve done in these groups is post 3 pages - one for thoughts, one for feelings, and one for behaviors. And one by one we go through the pages and I ask my group members to put up pictures symbolizing examples of each.

After all the pictures are up, we talk about each one, who experiences what, and about how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected.

This sets the stage for some great CBT work, especially in our younger groups.

Have a teen who would be a good fit for a group? Reach out to us today at the link in our bio.
