Today we continue discussing all of the Fall season activities (and fun!).

A few days ago Ms. M was busy in the soaping kitchen making an all-time favorite soap - Coffee & Cream❣️ This gently exfoliating soap is made with brewed coffee, cocoa butter, olive oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, kukui nut oil, and finely ground coffee. This soap bar is scented with Chocolate Ganache Fragrance; and yes, the entire house smells delicious! They’re on the curing rack for the next 4 weeks or so…
Next up we’re makin’ bacon…

The soaping kitchen is in full swing to prep for fall & winter. Today Ms. M was whipping up Shea Butter in anticipation of dry skin season. One batch of body butter was made with Eucalyptus scent (the classic favorite) and another with Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey fragrance- a warm scent with over tones of vanilla and the sweetness of honey. It reminds me of being wrapped in a blanket in front of the fire, reading a book with fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies nearby. Just delicious.
Packaged in 4 oz tins, whipped shea is a soft, creamy, white body butter that is Oh-so-good for your skin (see the comment below)!

I know you are all waiting for the big reveal! So here they are!! …Our first batch of Tallow Soap‼️ And I couldn’t be happier.

These soaps unmolded without hesitation. No “stickiness“ that you may expect from the high quantity of Tallow in the recipe (90%). That is likely due to key differences between Beef Tallow and other forms Tallow (lamb and sheep). [b/t/w Pig Tallow is called ‘Lard’]

These soaps have a lovely glossy shine, and smell divine (gotta love the Rosemary EO❣️). Shout out to my youngest daughter who gifted her Mama the “deep in the heart of Texas” molds.
(❤️love them❤️ sooooo cute!)

Now we play the waiting game - that’s right, about 4 weeks on the drying rack.

It’s Game ON for the first batch of Tallow Soap!!

The recipe I selected is 90% Beef Tallow (go big or go home). The remaining 10% being made up of Coconut Oil (cleansing) and Castor oil (for hardening the soap bar, and stabilizing the lather).

All ingredients performed as expected. Trace was a little elusive; but, based on experience, I was happy with my emulsion and the batter had started to increase in temperature (a sure sign the saponification process is beginning - it’s an exothermic reaction). I poured the soap into the molds and hoped for the best!!

This ‘experimental’ batch of soap was only a one pound batch. It produced 6 molded soaps and 3 1-oz over-pour bars (sample size). It is colored with a lovely blue and scented with Rosemary essental oil.

I will update you all once I un-mold.

Harmony House Soap is very excited to let you know we have found a most surprising source of beautifully rendered Beef Tallow!

While enjoying a delicious BBQ brisket sandwich Smokin Joes BBQ in Gainesville, MO I struck up a conversation with the proprieter (Mr. Joe himself!). We were discussing the economic challenges of modern day living when the subject of conversation turned to his (amazing) barbecue. Come to find out, Mr. Joe collects all of his beef fat and renders it in the very smoker he cooks the briscuit in!

I squeeled with delight. I have been seeking a reliable (and affordable) source of beef tallow to start using in my soaps❣️
As you likely know, cooking (and soaping) with Tallow is all the rage these days because the health aspects of doing so have resurfaced in the media.

Mr. Joe brought out a food-grade pail of the most beautiful white rendered tallow. I bought it on the spot‼️ I promised to swing by when my first batch of Tallow soap finished the cure.

Today we showcase Tulsi (Holy Basil). My organic Tulsi is thriving! I have havested the tender leaves to dry; they will be crushed into a soothing bedtime tea for a friend.

Another herb project is underway. This morning Ms. M harvested all the tender leaves of the lemon balm which grows like a w**d beneath the Cherry tree. The hydrator is full, and we’ve got fresh cut leaves to spare. Why lemon balm?…(see comment)
