Happy New Year!!
I took yesterday to take in the New Year with family and truly assess what I’m looking forward to in this New Year.. At first I was thinking, what Resolutions will I make for 2022??
As many of you, I have made these “resolutions” in the past and did a FANTASTIC job of sticking with them for about… 2 weeks! As I was debating this in my head yesterday, I thought I wonder where “resolutions” came from…
According to the History Channel, “resolutions” have been around for thousands of years! Back in ancient Babylonian times, celebrations with the New Year included reaffirming their loyalty to their new king and making promises to the god’s to pay for debts or return borrowed items. So, if they would do what they promised – the god’s would bestow favor on them and if not, they would fall out of their god’s favor. Then, in ancient Rome the Romans would offer sacrifices to their god and promises of good conduct. Then, more recently Christians would review their mistakes and vow to do better in the New Year.
Now, in recent times and research “resolutions” have been recorded that as many as 45% of Americans usually make “resolutions” – but as little as 8% are successful… 😳
In reflection of this and my own history with “resolutions”, my plan is to set GOALS for myself. 🙌
❓ Who else is going to set GOALS for this year???
🤔 While many of you may be asking, how should I do this?
Here are my suggestions:
1.) Brainstorm items that you would like to make changes to this year and prioritize these few items. This list should be 3-5 items you would like to work on (too many will make it difficult to be successful).
2.) After prioritizing these GOALS, make sure that they are encompassing of your life and not just one area. This will help to ensure that you are working on many items. This is helpful because you may not be successful with 1 or more of your GOALS, but if they are in different aspects of your life – hopefully you would still have something to succeed at.
3.) Post YOUR prioritized list of GOALS in several areas of your home (bathroom mirror, fridge, planner, workout area). This will help you to physically SEE your GOALS many times each day. This will help to change your mindset and allow you to FOCUS on your GOALS.
4.) Tell your Family and Friends some of your GOALS. This will help to hold yourself accountable for what your GOALS are.
5.) Recognize that NO ONE IS PERFECT! Not EVERY day can be perfection! This is okay and normal! Don’t give up on your GOALS because of one situation, day, or set-back. Just keep re-focusing yourself on your GOALS and keep moving forward!!
6.) Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small! Celebrate your dedication and reflect on the amount of time you have been working on your GOALS. This is not a marathon or a race, it is YOUR journey!
🙋 Tell me YOUR GOALS for 2022 and we can work through this year TOGETHER!
