Another introduction!
Wow, when I started my page this past February I had no idea how quickly things would take off. Thank you so much to all my wonderful followers, those who have shared their stories, and those who continue to support me! I wanted to re-share my story for everyone who has followed recently!
My name is Taylor Houlihan. I’m 24 years old, a 3rd year medical student, married to a wonderful man, and the older sister to 2 awesome brothers. I also have CHD. My heart condition was not diagnosed till I was 6 months old. After a curious pediatrician looked into my “innocent” heart murmur, it was discovered that I had tricuspid atresia, HRHS, transposition of the great arteries, and dextrocardia. My first heart surgery was the Glenn and Damus-Kaye-Stansel procedure at 6 months. My second surgery was the Fontan at a year and a half. Dr. Thomas Spray performed these at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Ever since my surgeries I have been very interested in medicine and science. I also became heavily involved in ballet, dancing from age 4 through college. It was always my dream to become a doctor and now I’m working towards that goal at Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia. Additionally, I have been able to do Fontan research with Dr. Jack Rychik at CHOP.
While I’m still leaving my options open, I hope to specialize in pediatric cardiology where I can work with my patient population and continue Fontan research. Thank you all for your overwhelming support, messages, and comments. I look forward to sharing my life with you all!
